THE NOOBS GUIDE TO THE DSSD: from $88-$420; why?

Recommended Posts

Aren

 @ Baldrick, Andy, Narikaa and Sconey.

A nice job Mike, even though I am not a DSSD fan.

These watches are so popular their prices and quality change all the time.

I think this is a nice review, but reviews aren't a substitute for making inquiries

and keeping current on market information.

I think this needs to be said for members who look at this post in the future.

Some times it seems like these reps are like BB's, IPods, laptops, cells phones, whatever.

No sooner do you buy it the next newest generation/version comes out.

My computer probably became all but obsolete by the time I had it a month.

Anyway...nice job Mike

and thanks for the laughs guys.

Interestingly I had both the mineral & the sapphire versions

on taking out both crystals and crunching them in my teeth I noticed as you gnawed them down to about 0.5mm granules you could definitely notice a more pronounced crunchiness to the mineral one.

Thanks a lot for the reply, though you're possibly using the word "interestingly" in a broader sense than I'm accustomed to.

Wow- thanks fpr putting all that work into the post.

I have a PVD version from Mary but I'm not crazy about the watch. It is popular though.

I find this post more confusing than helping TBH

All watches have several reviews with detail pictures in there sellers review section.

A simple link to Ska's DSSD review shows the difference to the $88 RM DSSD

Mary as well has a DSSD with 21J...and so on.

People who start threads "Whats the difference between the $88 DSSD and the $300 DSSD" just don't bother

to read themselves into the topic.

In the end it's all about knowledge and taste.

I think RM DSSD looks great but the mineral puts me off.

I think Roberts DSSD is great value but the low beat? Not for me.....

This goes on

The facts you deliver are quite obvious if a member has read some threads about movements, lume and crystals.

Your intention is good, I just don't find it very helpfull but more confusing.

Side to side comparison is still the best way to differenciate between the models.

My advice to every newbie who wants a DSSD is...

Check your dealer, your budget, how anal you are and you'll find the perfect version for yourself.

The many reviews we have are a lot more helpfull

Cheers

Akira

Does anyone on here have one of each of the DSSDs available to take a pic of side by side?

I know I sure as hell don't. Maybe a dealer can help?

Nice review Mike .. I have one dssd from Bk incoming this month .. I do have another one too and shall post an in-depth review when the bk one reaches me... The current version I have is from the noobfactory and what I get from bk will be from the 'noobfactory' as well, so I really need to find out myself too...

That is not necessarily going to help you…

There are differing version where the only difference is the movement - nothing more. So you can't tell the difference just on look alone...

For me it was – decided I wanted the DSSD. I want the closest rep without busting the bank. I find the thread about the $88 rep from Lay. OK that looks nice, but mineral glass, 21J etc puts me off (personal choice). I then see the thread about Roberts $150(ish) DSSD. Looks the muts nuts, but has a low beat movement (for whatever reason, this puts me off) See that this watch IS available with a high beat clone and go for that.

So what is that, a third tier DSSD? Whatever it is, I’m happy with it. I could have carried on and looked at the numerous ‘modded’ versions out there or even gone crazy and bought the one I saw in LHR T5. (But I couldn’t afford both the gen watch and a divorce - and the two would go hand in hand)

I think the thread is helpful, but you could include the $250 bracket to tick off the major price points. e.g....

Just wondering:

Is there a difference between Mary's and Mark's offer, other than then price?

ReplicaMake doesn't offer a $249 DSSD. The $178 version is in fact his $258 Asian ETA clone powered replica at sale price.

It has correct date-window bevel, correct ceramic bezel insert and a good bracelet but too heavy font on the "Gas Escape Valve" text and his watches are notorious for having uneven lume on the hour markers.

Sorry the 249$ one I was referring to was the one from Robert(pwc) mentioned in the post above.

New here, but not to the hobby. This has to be one of the best reviews I have read in a very long time. Sticky for sure.

I recently purchased BKs DSSD and had a chance to compare it to a friend's auth one. The OP is on the money, infact probably more detailed than could have been. The only other difference I could think of is that the gen version has a more matte finish of the dial as compared to the BK/Mary version (and the others I assume). Correct me if I am wrong.

Though this is something that others have been able to have modded ( I am about to soon) ;).

Second to that. Wish I had read this before ordering my 450+USD version. Let´s see how it compares when it arrives later this week.
