My SKX009K - Ongoing Mods - Pic Heavy

Recommended Posts

MoveAlong

Decided to put this up to show the versatility of the 007/009. You really can make it whatever you want. If you're looking to get into modding, I can't think of a better watch to tinker with and to learn from. First pic (not mine) is what this started out as - a plain pepsi SKX009K on rubber. It's a real classic and dirt cheap. I also have a SKX009J that I keep stock because... well, it is just mandatory!

First let me say I am absolutely a complete amateur tinkerer. I've fucked up a few things before. This is not a tutorial, just a few shots of what can be done.

First mod, a Murphy bezel and super oyster bracelet - http://murphymanufac...bezel_2010.html

Second Incarnation - gen black 007 dial and chapter ring with Dagaz hands. Dial and chapter ring also from Dagaz.

So, had it like above for quite some time. OK, let's go yellow. I loved Del's yellow modded 007 with A35 dial and chapter ring, so I used it for inspiration. Great photo, Del!

Trying to find a Seiko branded yellow dial was a lot harder than I thought it would be. Dagaz and Yobokies have a few yellow options, but I really wanted a Seiko stock look. I ended up going on FleaBay and getting a rep (yes, REP!) dial from the Philippines for dirt cheap. http://www.ebay.com/...C4AAOSwPhdU2WYJ. Unfortunately, the chapter ring that came with it was too small, so I got one from Dagaz along with some nice black hands. Also, the rep dial had really awful lume. Being CONUS, I tried to get Cwazy to lume it, but he's no longer here. So, I contacted the legendary KeNnY and he made it better than Seiko could ever do! I mean seriously, KeNnY is the man. This thing glows like nuclear fucking fire now! It took a few months going to Slovakia and back but was totally worth it.

De-cased movement, new chapter ring.

I use 2 hand remover levers, just one for the pic.

This is amazing! I'd love to see more step by step work that you've done. This is a very tempting hobby to take up. Care to give a very general cost breakdown?

If you would've told me that I'd like a yellow dialed watch before these picks I would have been skeptical!

Fabulous stuff.

A labour of love with pictures to rival the legendary Gazzla.

Thanks for sharing..................I have a couple of modified divers too, but won't thread crap as I didn't do the mods myself.

Nice mod.

Yes, don't forget that Rodico ;-)

Makes me think about my 3 modded Seikos (which I did myself too). It's a very satisfying task, with great rewards.

Very nice work mate. I love the fact that you say your an amateur but brave enough to give it ago yourself. I know the watch is cheap to buy but even so - a great sense of achievement!

Thanks for the kind comments guys, very much appreciated! For the question of cost, let's just say that by far the most expensive part of the mod was KeNnY's lume, but incredibly worth it. Not sure if he would want me to tell how much he charged, so I'll hold on that for now. But, you can't have a Seiko with piss poor lume, can you? This is a hobby, and I don't mind spending money on it. I get a great sense of satisfaction from doing this. Two years ago, I didn't know jack shit about any of this. Now I know enough to do some cool basic things, really all due to this place. So thanks guys!!

I love the super oyster too. I'm sure I'll change it up at some point. Nice thing is having the super oyster, jubilee, and president to choose from, which I do. The super president is really fantastic, highly recommended!
