DSSD from PrestigeWatchCo

Recommended Posts

Del

Following on from all the recent threads about the "best" DSSD to buy I thought I'd write a short review of the one I've just received from PrestigeWatchCo. For the record, I'm absolutely delighted with this watch .

The Listing

Rolex "Deep Sea" Sea Dweller

Stainless steel 43mm

Asian 21J premium grade automatic

New bezel with the perfect "10"

Upgraded lume

Bevelled date window

Sapphire crystal

Glide lock clasp

$149 + shipping

The Order

Ordered on 31st January

Paid for by bank transfer on 31st January

Shipped on 1st February

Received on 8th Feburary (was sent to my work so may have arrived on 6th February)

The Package

Padded envelope

Watch was wrapped in several turns of bubble wrap

Watch was contained within two clear plastic bags

Virtually all of the watch and bracelet was covered in protective plastic wrap

The Watch

No visable marks or flaws

Face, hands and markers all look perfect

Movement had started running when removed from packaging

Crown unscrewed easily and short hand wind was smooth

Crown pulled out positively to both first and second positions

Time and date set with no issues (initial time check a few hours later indicated good timekeeping)

Rotor spins freely and is not overly noisy

Crystal is very clear although very slightly higher at 6 than at 12

Etched Rolex crown on crystal at 6

Rehaut engraving good and Rolex crown perfectly lined up at 12

Bezel clicks round smoothly and positively

Bezel engraving is excellent and oozes quality

Bracelet is well finished and clasp works easily

One sharp edge/corner on the end of the clasp

Screws and links came out easily during sizing

Lume is excellent although longevity not tested yet

Del,

Like your Breitling too. I am a Rolie guy but find myself falling for the B watches. Question, what model Breitling do you think has the best rep?

Awesome, looks absolutely beautiful. I know you'll be happy with it. I have one too, absolutely fantastic.

Hey one question, where did you get your Breitling from and what model is it ?

Cheers and enjoy,

Nice review, Del. On the crystal being higher at 6 than 12 .. my (Replicamake) DSSD replica had exactly the same issue; it seems it's common for them to leave the factory without the crystal properly seated. I don't know if you have access to a clamp of some sort, but if you don't you might try this ..

Well, I came across the following advice on another forum here: http://goo.gl/25tyS

3. Try this... I know it is a half assed, red neck remedy... But it will work. Take the bracelet off the watch. Put the watch on the floor on a semi hard surface. Linoleum works perfectly! Use your bare foot (or with sock on) and center the watch in the middle of the ball of your foot and press. You may need to rock back and forth a little... Then after doing this for a few seconds, do the same thing only using the heel of your foot. DO NOT use as much force when using the heel of your foot.

And to my delight, I felt the crystal snap into place with a satisfying deep 'clunk!' under my heel. The crystal is properly seated and perfectly level now.

Still very pleased with this watch, even more so now

One of the most highly regarded is the SOH v2 - there are many threads on this watch so if you do a search you'll find them :).

Thanks Peter . I got the Superocean Steelfish from Mary - it's also a 21j (photos in the WatchInternational feedback section here).

Great price for a great watch. :D

Thanks mate ;).

Didn't realise you had posted this earlier Slim - thanks for that :thumbsup2:. I actually tried the "step on it" method () but it didn't work. I'm not too bothered but if I can find or obtain a suitable press or clamp then I will give that a go.
