ImWatchingYOU 0 Posted February 26, 2011 Today when I woke up and looked at the time on my SD, I was shocked. It looks like I got some acid or other chemical on the clasp and a little on the bracelet as well it has taken the chrome, or stainless plating off. The plating looks awful now, can anyone comment if there is a possibility to get a replacement from somewhere? Thanks in advance.
MikeMcNair 0 Posted February 26, 2011 my suggestion would be to get that "brushed" look on ALLLLL the links now. take 600, then 1500 grit sand papar to the WHOLE bracelet, and simply fix it. also, neutralize ANY rezidual acid that may be in the pores of the metal with baking soda maybe? not sure. or, simply buy a new bracelet, but the cheaper option is to try to repair it. if you are in the CONUS, i could give it a try for ya. i am pretty handy with fixing unfinished and problematic metals. ImWatchingYOU 0 Posted February 26, 2011 Cheers for the tip, can anyone show some pictures of a "brushed" bracelet? The bracelet is not that bad really. As only 1 link is damaged, but I have spare links therefore can change it. The biggest bugger is the clasp, and I am not even sure if it can be fixed by brushing, because as seen on the pictures the acid has made the metal really "dark". Cynikal.Mindset 1 Posted February 26, 2011 All that damage should buff out
Luthier 1 Posted February 26, 2011 All that damage should buff out +1. There's no "chrome or stainless" plating, all bracelets and clasps made from solid stainless steel. So, buff it with polishing compound and it will be like new.
MikeMcNair 0 Posted February 26, 2011 i would make the whole thing look like the case, kinda like these.... sand paper, steel whool, and some elbow grease and it will look great. here is a glock breach i did in the "brushed" look. the key is to get it as polished as possible, then take it a step BACK to brushed. Slim 0 Posted February 26, 2011 I'd just put a NATO on. Didn't realise they were plated though, thought it was just polished steel.
MikeMcNair 0 Posted February 26, 2011 naot strap isnt a bad idea, that might look pretty hot!
Aren 27 Posted February 26, 2011 IWY...This looks like Section 8 material to me. This is definitely watch porn. I hope you can find a replacement clasp. This is sad. I looks like the finish is so eaten away. Since it is just the clasp, maybe you can put up a WTB ad in Mem2Mem sales area. It won't hurt to try it, your need for a another clasp would be seen there over a longer period of time than this thread will be here. I hope it works out for you. All the Best
ImWatchingYOU 0 Posted February 26, 2011 will try to buff it out with a polishing compound first, and then we shall see how it goes. Dont like the NATO really, but let's see how it comes out.
Aren 27 Posted February 26, 2011 If you are in the US...there is a product called "NeveRdull". It can sometimes work miracles. You can try it and see, the product isn't expensive. On your clasp it looks like the finish is gone, but maybe not. Sorry this happened to your watch.
