How many of you could actually afford a GEN Rolex

Recommended Posts

myaz

A long time ago, I thought that Rolex was "the" luxury brand and then I got interested in watches, learned differently and finally found this forum.

So now, I've got both gens and reps.

What fascinates me about reps is that, given the right model, I can get something that's about as good as a gen. I can't justify buying those gens. Therefore, after an initial splurge of buying a bunch of reps both good and not so, it is now about the art of studying, learning, appreciating and liking the reps that are well pulled off.

Especially when there are members here who would probably count your wealth as pocket change.

More true than most of you realise . . .

Just to put it out there, I am open to the idea of being adopted if anyone needs an heir...

Silly question. Lots of gen ownership here as you will see from the gen wristies thread (which barely scrapes the surface). Reps are the perfect option for those of us who like some variety.

+1, I have almost 50 reps and they all are the best reps you can find. Cost me 300$ to 700$ a piece , so you can do the maths that if I could afford the gen or not.

Do I want to, No as I love the variety .

The only thing about Rolex I couldn't afford is......

The damage to my credibility at work.

Behind the counter at Greggs.

As soon as I saw this thread, I just knew that the first post was going to be "Can you afford a Rolex, because I can afford two". Going public with your wealth is really bad form young sir. Especially when there are members here who would probably count your wealth as pocket change.

Interesting thread to be started by someone that lowballed me for one of my watches because of a very poor exchange rate!

Somethings not reading quite right here me thinks!

My two favorite posts in the thread.....just want to make sure they stay front and center in the conversation!

I also love that you think you're "investing" in a gen watch....classic stuff here...

I've had a gen GMT since 1986, and owned a 'Date' for a while. I just happen to enjoy reps. Fun to have.

I can hardly afford reps at this point in my life.

The only gens I am interested in are micro brands at the moment.

Maybe someday I will have a Speedmaster or Daytona, but my wife already cringes at the idea of spending $400 on a watch. So spending $4000 + would probably drive her to divorce.

I think most on this forum could, 'afford' to buy one. But that's not what this hobby is about!

Strngest thing is , the title say's it's an asian 2836 movement...;the discription say's it's a Miyotta...

Asking what kind of movement it is than , he first send me a mail : as in the discription.

After a second mail he say's it's a Asia 2836.....???? :blind:

Same problem with Joshua. Description says 28800bph but qc shows 21 600bph
