Slight DSSD Malfunction

Recommended Posts

Ska

Ok I generally like to go about solving problems myself in a "go slow, and try not to fuck up" way.

For re-luming stuff this appears to work quite well.

For reassembling 6497s again this was succesful.

HOWEVER

My DSSD is my favourite watch bar one (no prizes) and having never delved into a 2824-2 I'm reluctant to fuck this one up.

Basically since last week my DSSD (which I've had for about 7 months with ne'er a problem) has decided to stop intermittently. It does this once or twice an hour and will happily start up again with a light shake or tap, and merrily tick away for roughly 20mins until it does it again.

Any ideas? And if so, is this something I could fix myself relatively simply??

Cheers all in advance!!

All the best

Chris

open her up and make sure the rotor is attached well. had the same issue when i first got mine and had to press on the rotor. i used the flat top on my chapstick tube to push it on flat, then rotated it all the way around a few times so as to make sure it wasnt hitting (if it is even 1mm off parallel it will rub other components of the movement)

also, see if anything else is loose or hitting. they are a pretty simple movement, so if there is a flaw, you will likely see it right away.

also, did it take an impact of any kind? could the hands be hitting? so hard to see with the crystal in, so you may have to take the movement out (which is as easy as a 6497)

The first things I would be looking for are a binding main spring or a bit of fluff/dirt on a wheel somewhere.

More than likely a good clean/service is all that is needed.

It could be something inside the movement, some dirtiness hidden, and by the time it has travelled to some gear or other sensitive part of movement. I had something similar with my old cheap watch with 21J movement. I blow it with dust blower and then it was working fine. So you can try to blow it a bit with dust blower. Also didn't some condensation get into the watch ?

Jesus Just started to open the DSSD up, its chock full of dust and crud.

Its never been opened before so this must all be from the factory.

Christ. NO wonder the fucking thing doesn't work properly.

Oh and its got a fucking clone 3135 in it. not a swiss 2836-2.

nono the swiss is really covered from dust and crud ! The Swiss companies for Swiss movement always specially put all their movements into cup of A1 souce and pile of dust, to ensure the longevity of the watch....

ok laughter is over... That is bad , really bad !!! So it is time to give it nice clean.. Could you please be able to take a photo ?? Thank you

OK here are a couple of photos, firstly showing the acres of Crud under the Caseback.

DSC_1004.jpg

There was more under the "titanium" shield. but I got most of that off before taking more shots of the movement. It took about 15 minutes with tweezers to get all the bits of lint and other crap out of the case.

So thats it basically. A clone 3135 (although "clone" is being pretty kind.)

Ska, those clone 3135's are notoriously unreliable...you say you paid for Swiss ETA? I'd be sending one hell of a snotty email to whoever you got it from mate...any hassle don't forget we're here to help...;)

Its common knowledge that I got that one from Mary, but I'll tell her gently, she's done me some seriously good deals in the past. Cheers though. Good to know you've got my back.
