RussP 22,632 Posted April 5, 2017 Get a genuine watch that's within your budget. You can always get a rep after you have a gen to rely upon. Seikos with the s726 movement can be had for around a hundred bucks if you look around. Here's a link to get you started : http://www.creationwatches.com/products/seiko-automatic-sports-89/index-1-3a.html They are like Toyota Hilux's ......................... unbreakable. Mb12 0 Posted April 6, 2017 I have done some more research and found these: Seiko SBPY119: Hamilton field chronograph auto: Graf Zeppelin 7680-2: I think I'm going to go for a cheap gen watch as a starter. The challenge noew is finding a nice balance between quality and aesthetics. Any opinions on these watches?

GenTLe 1,510 Posted April 6, 2017 Take the Tissot and run while you still have money. The Tissot is unlikely to entice you into the world of watches. It's just a boring quartz. Which is fine for telling the time but then again, so is your smartphone. The ST19, on the other hand, is a delightful column wheel chronograph with a life and soul. As for the blow up doll, which is it supposed to be? I suppose it must be the Tissot. ^^^^^^^ THIS! One has a 50$ quartz made in china, the other has a movement derived from a Swiss movement dated back in the forties of last century. One is like this: The other is like this: By the way, if I was you, I'd go for this one: http://www.tb-688.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=875 because it is much more gen-like than the Omega (which has wrongly positioned subdials). Or, if I want to spare money and still get a very very well made auto, this: http://www.tb-688.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=1192 BUT, as a student, if you don't want to be afraid to end up in a pool with your watch then fucked-up during some student party, then without any doubt go for one of these MECHANICAL Automatic pieces (SKX007, SKX009, a new turtle, which is bigger and more expensive, or a snzh57):

One of the best reps I have.
Hinclimincli 17 Posted April 6, 2017 For the price of that Hamilton you can probably have a 2nd hand gen Longines that will serve you way better. Or check the Steinhart website, really good Swiss watches at decent prices. That is if you want to go gen. Another suggestion would be 2nd hand or go vintage. There are some good Omega Seamaster from the 70s that will be at decent prices.
