$28K for Seiko???

It's like $120,000 for Huyndai.

What made you think that Seiko were the Hyundai of the watch world? I'm just curious.

The quality of their high-end watches has frequently been compared favourably with those from the established big guns, whereas Hyundais are rarely compared favourably with the likes of Mercedes, BMW or Audi.

I'm just sayin...

I ask myself how it feels to look at a 28K watch and see that seconds hand... I'll probably shoot myself, haha

You better not saying...

First - Seiko is a good brand, as well, as Hyundai is a good brand.

Hyunday Sonata was compared to Merc and Lexus, if you didn't know, and Hyundai Genesis was compared to iconic Toyota Supra.

Seiko, being good brand, is a japanese brand, and absolutely all top brands are Swiss. OK, a few - Germans there.

But doesn't matter, how good this watch is, it's SEIKO!!! When Toyota decided to build luxury cars, they realized, that nobody ever will buy TOYOTA name for $60K, and they created LEXUS. Same did Nissan with Infiniti and Honda with Acura.

If somebody decided to shell out $28K, he'll choose Rolex or AP, or something like that. Period.

Just saying.

Slim

Seiko do sell watches that are as expensive as common-or-garden Rolexes and IWCs. The fact that they also sell watches that cost about £50 doesn't put people off.

As far as car manufacturers go, Hyundai isn't considered a quality marque; it makes decent, cheap cars but it's attempts at high-end, executive products have fallen woefully wide of the mark. In no way, shape or form do they compare favourably to Audi, Lexus, Infiniti, Mercedes or BMW.

Seiko, on the other hand, DO make products which compare favourably to those offered by the big guns.

Hyunday Sonata was compared to Merc and Lexus...

Not favourably, it wasn't...

That's like saying that all top car brands are German. There are top Japanese brands too...............you've even referred to them in your post

But doesn't matter, how good this watch is, it's SEIKO!!!

Actually, it matters a great deal how good a watch it is; that's why it's being pitched at $28k. Seiko's name, unlike Hyundai's, is synonymous with innovation, high quality engineering and in many cases, prestige (where it's high-end products are concerned) and so the fact that it relies on only one name to front all of this is largely irrelevant.

If somebody decided to shell out $28K, he'll choose Rolex or AP, or something like that. Period.

Apart from those discerning folk who WILL shell out $28k for the very watch we're discussing, of course...

Don't argue with Luthier, he is one of those people who thinks the whole world thinks the same way he does. If HE wouldn't buy it, NO ONE will.

You are better off arguing with the dishwasher.

Luthier = epic fail.

T9000 + 1,000,0000

As a WIS for over 40 years, I can say with definite certainty that I'd be perfectly content wearing a Seiko La Salle or Grand Classic and wouldn't feel at all humbled in the presence of ANY Rolex, of course I'd prefer to be wearing a George Daniels or Martin Braun, but that's another ocassion altogether.

Seiko are a company who specialise in innovation, they have an incredibly diverse range, much more so than the mundane offerings from Rolex, Rolex's perception as a quality manufacture is simply based on great marketing over many years for what is essentially a standard Swiss ebauche, uitilised in most of it's offerings, leaving aside the small number of specialised movements such as it's chrono and GMT movement.

BTW, just as a FYI, if any of you guys out there, own ANY of the following watch models OR brands, then in actuality you possess a ROLEX watch, these are all model AND brand names registered by Rolex and or produced by Rolex, don't swallow all the hype about Swiss watches, there are plenty of other excellent watches manufactured worldwide. B)

Archeo, Aqua, Brandcard, Brex, Cestello, Cellissima, Chronautic, Cybernaut, Danaos, Elvira, Egyptian, Genex, Imperial, Lilliputian, LON, Lonex, Marconi, Milgauss, Metropolitan, Moneda, Ondeo, Omigra, Oyster, Oysterdate, Pearlmaster, Plage, Prima, Prince Dauphin, Prince, Rolco, Rolexis, Roliseum, Rollesor, Rolwatco, Royal, Sousmarin, Space Dweller Stratosphere, Tru-beat, Tudor, Unicorn Lever, Unicorn, Viceroy, Waferthin, Wicket, W/D, X/L, Zerographe.

It's often cited that Rolex as an example produce 1 million watches per annum, Seiko production is rated at 30 million, a lot of people must be very happy campers :)
