swissaddict 0 Posted April 3, 2009 I got a new strap in the mail the other day custom made by RepGeek member "usedtoluvadub". I posted my little review/pictorial over there, and thought I would post here as well... When usedtoluvadub posted the thread showing his elephant hide strap, I had to get one. I mean.. It's ELEPHANT hide, how cool and exotic is that?! So I PMed him and we chatted back and forth about exactly what I wanted in detail, hole spacing specifications and all. Communication was great, no problems whatsoever. Long story short: he worked quickly to produce a cool and unique strap, and I am very happy with the strap-maker and his product! My first impression was that the elephant hide is very soft and pliable. Aside from making the strap comfortable, it is also a great attribute because although the strap was a slightly tight fit when I first buckled it, a few firm tugs is all it took to be stretched to perfection. Also of note was the black sealant he used for the edges of the strap, which I think gives a more finished look compared to the strap without sealant that he'd posted pics of previously. I chose the darker of usedtoluvadub's elephant hides, cut to a width of 22/22 to fit my PAM 48 or 49. It has an approximate length of 120/70mm with 7 holes punched (perfect for my 6.25-inch wrist on the second-to-closest hole, and will fit my girlfriend's 6-inch wrist on the closest hole or up to a 7.25-inch wrist on the farthest hole). I also requested the tail be cut at an angle, which I think turned out great. For those who like to nit-pick or have refined tastes, you may notice the workmanship is not on par with an HKTAN or Greg Stevens custom... for example, the stitching is not as tight and even as you might expect from the high end strap-makers. But hell, you pay 4 times as much for those and the wait can be months! Plus, it's cool to be part of an actual forum member developing his craft and to support that. I didn't prod for more info or ask for evidence, so I guess I can't be sure, but he's in the U.S. for whatever that's worth (maybe not worth anything for all I know!)
