nicnjon 0 Posted April 19, 2011 I have recently bought a piece of sapphire crystal Jackson Tse to replace the existing crystal on the PAM 111 PVD. After removing the original crystal, I found out that the sapphire (from Jackson) could not sit nito the PAM casing. It was very slightly bigger in diameter. I hope to get some advise on how can I modify the sapphire to sit into the casing. I also noticed that the sapphire crystal is slightly thicker than the mineral glass, will that be a problem for the sapphire to sit in completely. Really appreciate all the suggestions. Thanks! Balad1 0 Posted April 19, 2011 I might be wrong but I think you're screwed and need to look for another crystal.
greg_r 82 Posted April 19, 2011 um - trying to resist the temptation to tell you to modify it with a hammer.... No, the crystal and case need to match. You cannot modify the crystal - you may be able to modify the case slightly, but if it's PVD your problem then is going to be damaging the finish.

KBH 7 Posted April 19, 2011 I've always thought a good watchmaker could cut and shape crystals on a lathe. Finding a "good watchmaker" is the hard part, though.
Balad1 0 Posted April 19, 2011 Note that if a crystal is made from real sapphire (man made) it is a 9 on the Mohs scale. Meaning it's not easy or cheap to cut/shape.
fine dd 0 Posted April 19, 2011 I adjust every day crystals that won´t fit. Do you have the correct dimensions from the old and the new crystal? If your new crystal is 0.1-0.6 bigger you can remove the crystal gasket, lay the new crystal in and use crystal cement or UV glue to fix it.
Luthier 1 Posted April 19, 2011 Go to any prescription glasses lab, pay $10, and they'll do the job. They have diamond coated grinders.

nicnjon 0 Posted April 20, 2011 Sorry for the late response. Just got back from work from abusy day. Thanks for al the replies and suggestions. The sapphire crystal i bought from Jackson was only very slightly bigger in diameter. I would think its only less than 1mm bigger than the original glass. Anyway I told Jackson the sapphire is meant for a 44mm PAM 111 watch which came from Prestige watch. And Jackson told me that his sapphire would definately fit his PVD 44mm casing. I thought of grnding the sides down slightly so hoping that it wud sit into my PAM 111 case. What equipments shud i use?
