semperfi55 4,707 Posted August 18, 2018 When I first started out collecting reps, I was dead sure not to be the sort who collect all the Rollies. It's too common. Everyone has one. And my gen DJ will be swamped by rep Rolexes (what's the plural for Rolex?). Since then, well... Here's one way to put it. It's not the unstoppable Rolex tide just yet, I only have 2 Rolex reps so far. AP, on the other hand.... that....that's been done elsewhere. The Watch The Bamford watches are like horological Marmite. Divisive fuckers. You can disrupt a Hublot Hate Group circle-jerk by tossing in a Bamford. I'm not a fan of the Popeye watch or the completely blacked out ones (except the all-black AP Royal Oak Chrono, oh sweet Rep Gods... ), but for some reason I took a liking to the Snowtrooper. Perhaps the all-white aesthetic makes it distinct from other Rolex colours in a low-key, pleasant way. It's not really "in your face" leopard print or iced out. Googling "Bamford Snowtrooper" got more results for reps than gens. That's when you know a watch is rare If anyone knows the RRP for the gen, let me know! The Rep I learnt about this watch whilst browsing Narikaa's bit of the forum. I knew it was out of production for some time but decided to try my luck anyway. Funnily enough, he was just about to receive a batch of them so onto the Rolex bandwagon I hop. Dimensions Case Diameter: 41mm Bezel Diameter: 40.3mm Lug-to-Lug: 48mm Lug Width: 20mm Case Height: 12.6mm I could try and compare it to the gen Sub specs... but that would be reading so no. I'll ask on the intros sub-forum Dial Not sure why the photos came out grainy. I might been too awestruck by the white sheen to care about photo quality. Convenient story isn't it? "It's so good that's why I couldn't get good photos of it, trust me mate..." No spelling mistakes, so far so good.... Slightly off DWO, and white background on DWO. All the gen ics I have come across have a black DWO. Someone on either RWI or Reddit mentioned that the gen came in black or white DWO. Not sure what to believe. But I do prefer the black DWO as it gives a nice contrast, just like how the regular black dial Rolex and white DWO go together. Funny why I never bitch about Rolex not matching DWO colours to their dials..... Am I a Rolex fanboy ?!?!? The gen has a much bolder, font for the "Bamford" bit. The bolder font does make it pop better. It's a shame it wasn't replicated better. Oh well. Otherwise, nothing bad to say about the dial! You can see the slight coronet etching on the crystal. Always think that it's a smudge.... Nice rehaut alignment there. I was surprised to find this in a ~ GBP 100 watch! The rep has a nice hexagon/honeycomb(?) pattern to it, like the gen. Looks great and helps with the inevitable sci-fi vibe that the watch name evokes. The cyclops is quite thin on this one! Movement I was really surprised when I popped the caseback off. A decorated rotor in a closed back?! A good old DG2813 workhorse in there. They even have the screws and bits of metal to hold the movement in place! Case & Bezel Overall, you can't go wrong with the Sub/ It's just so sleek! The entire case has a different finish from other Rolex. "Durable DLC Matte Grey 'Titanium' Coating" was the term Reg used. It gives the watch an overall whiter look. "Nice lugs. Did you get them from the lug store?" There looks like some colour bleeding out form the bezel. Not sure if that was intended or a rep limitation. All the gen photo I could find were professional photos, no buyer wrist shots. Hard to tell if the gen has the same look. One of the other forums suggested that it is as per gen. Not sure about that. It looks crisp from afar though, so no biggie. Aaaargh it's aligned to a trough! The paaaaaiiiinnn!!!!! Bracelet & Clasp Bracelet and clasp has a similar matte grey finish. Pleasant to look at, and pleasant to touch too. Ahem. For our well endowed members, lots more extra links hiding in the clasp. On the left is my other Rolex rep with a standard finish, on the right you can see the different finish on the Snowtrooper. Clasp from afar.... Clasp up close.... Clasp shut... Functions It's a diver watch technically but I'm bringing this to my next Ski trip! Looking forward to wearing this in the snow! Oh, and a lume shot to keep @McGilli happy. Accuracy The Empire lost millions of clone troopers and 2 Death Stars. Why? Fucking 2813s. And that's how Anakin lost too. Overall I'm very glad I managed to snag this from Reg. Not a Rolex rep you see everyday! It's a cool customisation of an iconic watch without being too over the top! Such a shame about the white DWO though... You didn't think I was really going to leave it white like that, did you? I was busy taking insta-worthy photos rather than working on the watch. Huuuge problem when I popped the dial off. While waiting for the watch, I bought a standard run-of-the-mill 2813 black DWO with Rolex font. This Snowtrooper has a weird date wheel and overlay with spokes on it. After some careful trial and error, I figured out that the spokes were not really essential to the working of the date wheel. Unfortunately, I did not expect the watch to have a funny datewheel, so the bog standard DWO was not a 100% fit for this watch. After some adjustments and double sided tape.... ...oh hello!
