Rolex DSSD with Asian ETA clone movement

As mentioned in Lay's feedback section, I recently bought his DSSD with Asian ETA clone movement (the 2386) for a superb sale price of $178 (full price is $258). I was especially interested in how this would compare to the 21j "milguass factory" version that I bought from Robert earlier this year and only sold within the last two weeks.

 

The overall quality is excellent and I cannot see any noticeable difference between Lay's and Robert's versions. There were some minor flaws on Robert's (e.g. crystal was not pushed fully flat) and there are some minor flaws with Lay's (e.g. the connection between diver's extension and the first link was very stiff - although now that I've removed the diver's extension that issue has been resolved).

 

The A2836 movement is smooth and positive, and timekeeping has been excellent so far (as expected).

 

The lume on this version is every bit as good as on Robert's and has great longevity - I can easily read the time in the dark in the morning.

 

The bezel and rehaut engravings look good and are similar in both models.

 

The bracelets of both models seem identical in finish and specification. They actually both have the same screw adjacent to the clasp that screws in too far and partially obstructs the hinged clasp lock in the open position - an easy fix but to me it proves they are the same bracelets!

 

All in all, I think this was a bargain at $178 for an Asian ETA clone DSSD - I'm very pleased!
