TAGster 5 Posted May 4, 2011 Hi Mates, I was surfing the web reading about Tourbillons and I came across with this: http://www.montiek.com/ What do you think? Would this be chinese tourbys? Or how could it be possible to make it so affordable? Cheers!
amuthon 0 Posted May 4, 2011 movement is 100% chinese at that price. (Seagull?)
greg_r 83 Posted May 4, 2011 Yes, they'll be Chinese tourbys - looks like they've bought in some standard models and just had their name added to the dial. Their prices are rather expensive - looking at their most basic model, which is listed at €1300, you can find those with sterile dials on eBay occasionally for under half of that price. There are a fairly good range of rep tourby watches available too - using the same movements as you see there in many cases. Prices start from the $500-600 region and go up from there. Quality is excellent. The only snag is getting them serviced when they eventually need it - they are so incredibly complicated that you'll be very lucky to find a watchsmith who knows how to work on them. Ska 11 Posted May 4, 2011 1200 Euros for a Seagull tourby in a cheap-looking case. Fuck that.
TAGster 5 Posted May 4, 2011 I agree with you mates, I should quoted affordable word in order to give a sarcastic tone to the topic title he he. I suspected this montieks were equipped with chinese tourbys, but I wasn't sure. And yes, I would rather get a sterile watch for half the price. so, would you call this a scam? Given the movmt are chinese? I did not see anywhere in that website the mentioned the movement origin.

trailboss99 997 Posted May 4, 2011 Nothing really wrong with a Chinese tourby mate. The Sea-Gull is a great MVT and the LL510 is not bad either, after all, Million Smart sell 10s of 1000s of them yearly. Anyone who expects other than CN for that price has rocks in their heads. BTW, Robert's watchmaker can service them but you may need to ask real nicely for a referral. Does anyone know what became of Homer? He sold some nice MS ones at good prices and could service/supply parts.
jdoe 0 Posted May 4, 2011 I think my Chinese Tourbillion is wonderful, a little cheaper than the aforementioned, but still a real watch (and a real tourby). Buy what you like, not what others like, provided you think it's worth the money. Service may become an issue in a few years, but ....

Given the movmt are chinese? I did not see anywhere in that website the mentioned the movement origin. I'll take greg's advice, however, I'm quoting their FAQ below: How comes that prices are comparatively low for these european designed masterpieces? This results from the organisational and geographical set up of MontieK. We ourselves are in control of design, production/assembly, fulfillment and servicing. The quality driven and therefore labour intensive production of our watches is performed by a very experienced and specialist staff. The movements originate from Sea-Gull. Sea-Gull - founded already in 1955 - is well known for its expertise in the manufacturing of tourbillons. Amongst watch enthusiasts 'Sea-Gull' has become synonymous with good quality Chinese watchmaking. In line with our top quality requirements, our various models therefore feature the renown Sea-Gull movements.
Luthier 1 Posted May 4, 2011 Last year, being in China, I called to Seagull sales manager, and he was kind enough to send me the prices list of their movements. Tourbies are in $350-$600 range.
Member X 91 Posted May 4, 2011 Millionsmart has a wide range, as noted above: http://millionsmart.com/e/default_home.asp Homer used to sell the sterile versions but the last I read on RWG2 he had given up the game
Luthier 1 Posted May 5, 2011 $132,000 for a chinese watch???????????
Member X 91 Posted May 5, 2011 They're not all that much, AFAIK! I can only assume it's some special order thing...
llsteve80 0 Posted May 5, 2011 I got a sterile tourby. I think most of the sterile models and independent brands are variations on models made by Guangzou Watch Factory. Looks like most of the chinese tourbillons on the bay came from this place. Mine was only $499, the heck with paying double or more for a watch with a brand nobody has ever heard about anyway. Unless you really, really like a fancy wooden box or something.
PatronSaintofChainsaws 1 Posted May 5, 2011 Does anyone know what became of Homer? He sold some nice MS ones at good prices and could service/supply parts. PM me if you want to know that story. Regardless, I think he's on eBay again under a new name.
WatchMe007 0 Posted May 6, 2011 Anyone with experience with the AP tourbys? The reps. I see them for $6-$800. Would the tourbillon stop whirring and spinning in short order. I think they are really cool looking.
