What an amazing project. You’re an inspiration. For someone like me who’s setting out to learn how to disassemble a movement, clean, reassemble and oil it, this project makes my goal seem like a breeze.

To get to where you are would be amazing indeed.

Great project, thanks for sharing!

I had one of these a while back and they are a really nice watch to wear.

Enjoy the rest of the restoration and rebuild..! :D

Success! Well, almost finished. I still need to install a fresh set of gaskets and I haven’t been able to source a gen chrono sweep hand.

Regarding my spare movement - well if I buy all the necessary parts to rebuild a new movement it’s going to likely cost $500 (I need a lot of pieces, like 27 parts including a complete automatic works and barrel bridge complete). Not sure it’s worth it. I may simply eBay the various spare parts to offset costs.

The other outstanding question is the dial. It cleaned up nicely but it’s not perfect. Do I leave as is patina and all? Or buy a replacement dial? Thoughts welcome.

Onto the pictures (proper wristshot tomorrow with the sun):

Bravo sir! That’s an incredible journey to have shared with us - thoroughly enjoyed the thread .... personally I’d leave the dial, it has so much character befitting the watches life so far :)

WOW and I mean WOW - I wish I had the patience and ability to take on something as this. A mesmerising story / journey on which when I first saw it I thought best of luck !!!

Total transformation and you should be commended to the Highest Order of Merit Organisation (unfortunate acronym of HOMO) :D

Amazing transformation. I applaud you, and your innate skill. Maybe one day, I will have half your ability

A gorgeous looking timepiece, compared to how it looked when you got it!

Another vote to keep the dial. Almost anyone can swap a new dial in, but to bring that one up to what you have is just amazing. And still shows some wounds of the war it went through earlier.

Totally amazing work you’ve done.

I second the HOMO nomination, beautiful stuff.

I think you've got the message on the dial by now, but I'm also in the 'keep the amazing dial' camp.

Oh, I realized I never posted an update on this one. Ended up joining Yahoo! Japan Auction site to find the chrono hand. Then used Buyee to be able to purchase with a Japanese forwarding service - seems complicated but simple. I’d recommend it for purchasing on Yahoo! Japan Auctions. Also, there are some good gen finds on those auctions.
Anyways, hand installed and complete!

And a photo with my Speedy pro cause I heard double wristing is a thing now.
