JohnG 41 Posted May 31, 2009 I am starting to look at more and more "gen" Chinese manufactured watches, looking for potential watches to get a "Pyrolume" treatment (see thread http://www.replica-watch-guide.net/forum/i...?showtopic=1449 amd http://www.replica-watch-guide.net/forum/i...showtopic=1496) I found this one last night - don't know if it is gen-gen or gen/knockoff but with a 24mm beefy distressed strap and a Pyrolume style dial, this could be fucking awesome.... or am I wrong? Pyro doesn't do chronos but if you have a cnc machine to cut dials, why the hell not? I would eliminate date window, keep subdials... Post your suggestions here... mtt.tr 0 Posted May 31, 2009 i just brought a ik colouring automatic looks rather nice. And i brought a eyik watch wholesale as im looking at selling Chinese gens on flebay
NFleischer 4,355 Posted May 31, 2009 sorry -not for me. too many other discounts on swiss- either cheapie like Hamilton or used.
greg_r 81 Posted May 31, 2009 I think it all depends on how well the watch is made. Some of those cheapie Chinese 'gens' don't last 15 minutes... Interesting idea, though - with the right watch (something that has a quality feel) you could be onto a winner.
Luthier 1 Posted May 31, 2009 You bought it or you sell it?

Interesting idea, though - with the right watch (something that has a quality feel) you could be onto a winner. Well the cheapie I got for 11gbp shipped is the same one lololo (Pyrolume) swaps dials on and auctions off - last went for $222. Now he has another on there (same watch) that is bidding at $80 w/ four days to go... again, minus the superlumed custom dial, you can get this for 11gbp... And as for the "Apogaum" line - been favorably reviewed on TZ or WUS, can't remember which...
greg_r 81 Posted June 1, 2009 Cool - I certainly like the look of the Apogaum you posted. Interesting case shape.

trailboss99 994 Posted June 2, 2009 I'd proberly go with the Deep Grove mate. Reason being that a dremel bearing is not designed to take the side thrust loads generated in a mill application and you will get slop quickly if you load it up too much which is easy to do. The actual dremel will have some flex in the case as well. It's plastic after all. See the head on the DG? Solid as. It prob would not be a problem doing dials but belive me you will find plenty of other stuff to do once you own one. A propper spindle like on the DG also has a morse taper instead of a chuck so a far wider range of tooling is available. The axis travel is near double on the X and an inch more on Z as well. Much more powerfull motor as well. All in all a much beter machine that should last well. With patiance and pratice you could proberly make a case on that. Certainly Pam CGs and two or three of them would pay for it! Col.
JohnG 41 Posted June 2, 2009 Thanks Col! I am too busy right now, but when I get the house a bit further along I think I will do this...
trailboss99 994 Posted June 3, 2009 Yep, whay the hell not? You will be surprised what you end up makeing with that little jigger. I bet every hinge and lock plate in the house ends up covered in engraving for starters. Not to mention a brass name plate for the front door (with V10 lume fill of cause). You can also use it to make those sandwich style plastic name plates/labels you see on switches, controls and used as name badges. You know, one colour on the outside another in the middle. Engrave 'em and the middle one picks out the letters/symbols. I bet you end up with a small lathe soon after as well. The bug will bite. Col.

I've wondered if you can make a bezel insert for the older Rolex GMT from that sandwich style plastic to resemble the ceramic insert.
trailboss99 994 Posted June 3, 2009 Hmm, maybe but I think the insert is a compound curve which would cruel the idea unfortunatly. Col.
