Member X 91 Posted July 13, 2011 Glue it all together and sell it as a VDB. $$$$!!! Glue? A1 brother V--vintage D--dingle B--berry Keep the faith, Dingle, when it all comes together it will feel great! At least you're not painting dials - so far I must have painted and lumed at least 3 that I've then had to leave in white spirit to strip back to the base metal to start again... greg_r 81 Posted July 13, 2011 disaster tonight. I received the new stem, but the silix crown has stripped it's tube. No real force, just shit happens I suppose. I have contacted Silix to see what, if anything, where he can help. The new stem also snapped in half. Again, not much force, I was just unscrewing the crown that came with the molly movement from the new stem, one wrong twist and bang (was trying this as the silix crown was now stripped)......thankfully rsea has a few extra he is sending me at cost..... speaking of cost, this is starting to cost me a small fortune..... Broken? That just makes it MORE vintage, baby! Yeah! Seriously, though, that's a bummer... Have faith - you'll get it sorted in the end
KeNnY 29 Posted July 13, 2011 shit happens mate, I have broken 2 stems when trying to remove them from crown (my first stems).. From that day,I have found a way how to nicely remove the old stems. Use your pliers, and hold the stem as near as possible the crown, and put the stem on part of pliers that have no teeth, it is only hollow part, that you will not damage the stem. Then just twist to unscrew the crown, and voilà , you have done it !
Member X 91 Posted July 13, 2011 Thanks for the tip, Kenny!

dingle 57 Posted August 1, 2011 "It is finished".....well sort of...... I received the new stems and crown and attempted to install them. A you can see from the crappy BB pic below, the 'detent' is different on the new one versus the original. This has turned out to be a major issue and a nightmare. I filled in the detent with solder and chiseled out my own detent to make this one work. In the meantime, I have new stems on the way from Andy as the others snapped while trimming to size........ pic of the stems ( the new one is the long one) here are some pics of the watch assembled now....what could this be?..... Akira 0 Posted August 2, 2011 Wow Dingle, the watch looks awesome. Have you done anything to the case yet? I really like the extremely aged hands, the turned out pretty well for your first time Enjoy the watch
dingle 57 Posted August 2, 2011 Have you done anything to the case yet? Yes. The case was re-shaped somewhat and aged. I also soldered the lug bars and crown tube. It looked all shiny and new when I received it from Silix.
