sjb 0 Posted June 16, 2011 I am considering buying a vintage Datejust ,would it hold it value,or maybe be an investment?
greg_r 81 Posted June 16, 2011 Always hard to predict, to be honest. Some models go up in value, most don't. Buy it because you like it - if it goes up in value, it's a plus. Watches don't generally make good investments...
JohnG 41 Posted June 16, 2011 It probably won't go up in value, but it will hold its value better than the average watch, especially if well taken care of.
solkryssare 109 Posted June 16, 2011 Yes. Any vintage Rollie will hold or increase in value. You cant lose money on a good buy, vintage Rollie.....

sjb 0 Posted June 16, 2011 Thanks guys. How much difference do 'papers' etc make to value,a lot I would think? I have a really nice Datejust without papers but from a well regarded seller, with insurance valuation etc for £1500 is that a good deal? I have bought from him before(a vintage Omega)

I have bought from him before(a vintage Omega) I assume its S.S. with the 18k gold bezel and inner band? What is the age? I have seen mid 80's models in great shape sell for under $2,000 U.S.
Guanaco 0 Posted June 26, 2011 Vintage Datejusts are not a good investment, they retain their value but unless they are rare models like the ones with UAE dials or other types of rare dials, they won't go up in price, when they do it's not by much either, not even Tiffany dialed Date-Just's. Buy a watch because you like it, if you want a good investment I'd suggest to invest in Gold or Platinum.
