ZZF v2s Xtal Swap

Recommended Posts

Aramis2288

Hi all,

While browsing through endless threads regarding modding the subs I did not find the definitive answer to my particular question so I thought I am gonna kick-off a small thread. If I happened to miss something obvious then my apologies in advance, I am new to topic of modding reps.

I know that ZZF submariners do accept gen Xtal.

What I am trying to confirm is whether the ZZF v2s submariner accepts the gen Xtal with a gen crystal gasket? Or are there any known gasket fitment issues? (I think there were some reps which could take the gen crystal but with a rep factory gasket which could potentially lead to a mess if it got damaged during the swap).

Also, I am assuming that the movement version the rep came with (for v2s it's Asian ETA clone vs Rolex 3135 movement clone) do not impact in any way the dimensions of the external parts (case, gasket, Xtall), correct?

Regards,

A

Should be fine as gen spec as far as I’m aware.

Thx mate. I've actually moved away from the idea of swapping Xtal on ZZF V2s and moved for VSF 116010LV considering further going Franken project.

ZZF V2S will be hitting M2M soon, I think.

Probably better idea. Crystal on vsf is decent and insert probably better

Yeah, it is not a day and night difference IMO, but indeed there is a difference. If it is about the VSF Xtal I think it really good for a rep, the only thing which bugs me a tiny bit is the RGB reflections on the cyclops in certain light conditions. I am still deciding on whether I can be arsed to spend 300 quids on a gen xtal + mounting and most likely the answer is nope.

Rather do the date wheel if I’m honest, the latest crystals are all pretty good

I've seen a bunch of comparisons of the DW font between VSF and gen on RWI and it actually looks quite spot on.

Any tips for lining date wheels up as I find it hard work.

Do you mean your DW is not centered?

You mean for using a DWO ( date wheel overlay) on an eta 28** movement?

there is a tool you can have 3D printed to help when doing alignment.

Don’t be put off by it being uploaded by some plonker called @Glaude it actually works well… unlike him….

Yes sorry I should have been clearer.I have only used dial dots as I'm not confident of the alignment staying true,I seem to have it right, run it through 24hrs multiple times, it looks good.Build it back up and its slightly off.I'm not up on 3d printing but my neighbour has one, does that link provide what he would need to print one?Or can I buy one from somewhere? Thanks for your reply.

Give him the link and he will be able to download the plans to print

Well, no more plans for modding. The watch is on sales already.
