What to do with some unexpected money.

Sooooo…I sold my house to buy watches.

I was put in a situation where I had to sell my house. The property market in Aus has gone absolutely crazy in covid and, even so, I got a crazy price for it. Way above what I hoped for.
So what to do, what to do?

This is what to do:

That is great.  Lovely watch, looks almost like my rep.  Well except for that subdial spacing and a bunch of other things.

Silly me, I put my house proceeds in the stock market.

Yeah my buying criteria is don’t buy gens that are repped well. And the speedy has always been my fave watch.
As discussed with you previously, the original plan was to buy this in person in Japan earlier this year. Since covid screwed that royally I just got it sent over.
Oh well, now I can start choosing what other watch to buy over there when we’re allowed to travel. I already bought the yen when we had a good exchange rate.

So you're homeless but have a nice watch?

Or have I read this wrong?

And still... I don’t think it was easy for the mister @Flinnt to decide to sell his house. But it happens that it helps to start a new life.

I'm glad for you mister Flinnt.

Enjoy ! :)

In reply to what to do with this unexpected windfall, I'm pretty sure and @Junior88 can confirm, that the idea was floated to give the watch away

This is how I read this too...

In Toronto our housing market has exploded exponentially (ie. 25% increase from 20 to 21 and the increase from 19 to 20 was about the same)... so yeah you can sell your house and make a killing, but that means you have to either replace it at an equally insanely high price, rent (and rent is the same  or more as a mortgage), or move more than 3 hours from the city where house prices aren't big city prices.

So I also assume you're homeless... with a nice watch. Congrats on the pick up.

Wasn't it a raffle, or draw straws of some sort?

You’ll have to pry it off my dead body to raffle it.

I was forced to sell the house, there was no choice about it. It would’ve been a stupid choice but, again there was no choice. Life can shit on you in ways you can’t imagine.
I own another house which is what I’ve moved into.
I’m still investing the far majority of my windfall in proper investments…like motorcycles :D.

Congratulations on your windfall!  I'm sure that stunning Speedy will be a pleasure to own for many years to come...so it's money well spent. You can't take it with you when you go ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

After what you've been through the past year, I'd say it's well deserved mate. Wear it in good health!
