AlphaLima 17 Posted June 26, 2011 This guy, another ex-sailor, has his watched delivered to him, in working condition, 67 years after he lost it overboard. My navitimer didn't survive 5 minutes in the shower.
Takken 0 Posted June 26, 2011 Wow! That's a great story, and it's almost unbelievable something like that is possible.
AlphaLima 17 Posted June 26, 2011 I was in the Royal Navy myself, and i've spent time diving in naval dockyards. The amount of crap on the bottom is hard to explain, but the preservation is understandable. These ships had huge propellers, and the powerful props turn up a large amount of silt & mud every time they come into port, and almost everything gets buried. I can only imagine that the thick coating of mud has protected it from the more corrosive elements. Had it simply sat on sand for 67 years, exposed to sea water, it would have surely decayed to nothing.
