36mm??

Recommended Posts

APjumbo

So, I’ve been on a gold kick lately, threw a new battery in my grandfathers old 35.5mm Cardinal.

It wears really well.

This just after receiving a 40mm day date which is huge and hideous.

Maybe these 36mm sizes deserve more credit. Maybe selling that 36mm ranchero I had was a mistake.

Just some random thoughts. Now I’m looking at 36mm presidents.

Anyone else starting to reduce watch size?

I just bought a yodog Daytona Big Red at 37mm.  I love it.

I also have a 6262 with a stainless bezel, also 37mm.  That one looks small on me and I think it'll make its way to m2m sometime in the future.  It's weird.

That does seem wierd

Is one of those a steel bezel and the other a black bezel?

Yup, so the stainless bezel 6262 gives the illusion of being smaller.  I have it on a black leather strap now, so I think that also contributes to the illusion.

I think this does it a little better.  Or shows that I'm a lunatic that doesn't know what he's talking about

@fatarms

The black on black is gorgeous and it definitely looks larger.

The stainless bezel on the other one blends in with the case shape and what pops is the white dial, which is obviously smaller than the entirety of the black dial/bezel one.

You arn’t crazy.

Great looking pieces there

I also think hat the older versions of  Rolex watches are a better size to wear and classier because of their smaller size, especially in gold.

There are numerous articles available about the trend towards smaller watches

It depends a lot from the case: for "normal" watches (the likes of JLC master control date and such) 39mm is my minimum size, considering my wrist is 19.7cm.

BUT the Oyster case by rolex is a bit different, if on bracelet (on strap they look too small). I have a 35mm AirKing and it fits me well, regarless it's so small.

So, ok for smaller case for me too, but only the Oyster and on bracelet.

It’s the style of watch, it wears big so 36mm is perfect IMHO for The DJ.

Similarly, based on watch style and case shape. I can’t wear a 45mm omega seamaster.

But happily wear 50mm Uboats.

you can’t just discount a watch size until you see how it wears

You guys  are right about the oyster on bracelet. The ranchero  I had was built on an oyster case but only on a strap and it always looked small.

Panerai seem the opposite, I have no problem wearing a 47mm Pam, must be the case shape and possibly short lugs.

This is the Daydate 41.6mm

It looks ridiculous, The fake gold doesn’t help either. It’s  good for a laugh though.

@fatarms is indeed a lunatic.  But that aside, 36mm is a very comfortable size.  Vintage explorers, DJs, DDs.  But I'm not moving toward them, I've always been there.

I was beyond hesitant on a 114270 but… I don’t regret. I enjoy it very much!

@mclarendude

That looks great.

Mine is 39mm and fits great but am curious now if I should have considered the smaller classic size.

I thought rolex was crazy for discontinuing the 39, maybe they are smarter than they seem.

I’m in the smaller vintage Rolex camp as well.

Find the newer GMT to be a bit clunky and the bracelets on the 126610 to be too wide…

Love a vintage on an old jubilee
