AlphaLima 17 Posted July 7, 2011 Watches are being rediscovered by the cellphone generation. I've personally noticed a lot more people wearing mechanical watches, both at work and at uni. It seems that a nice mechanical watch is replacing the car as a graduation present.

Crusader 0 Posted July 7, 2011 True.... Just the last day I was waiting in my car and I was watching people passing by and to tell you the truth, only 1 of 10 people wore watch, aproximately. Even guys in suits and white shirts didn't wore anything.

AGL 0 Posted July 7, 2011 Lots of young people wear bracelets or wristbands... Right now I have a Jack Wills one on! I think those are more popular... Although I am into reps I hardly wear a watch while at work and always take it off when at home. I am however getting into the habit of checking a watch rather than my phone! (There was a point where I was wearing a watch and checking my phone for the time!)

Carl77 0 Posted July 7, 2011 I'm in Tokyo for holidays now, and I can tell that Asians love to wear watches! I've seen a lot of Speed and Sub these last days.
Member X 91 Posted July 7, 2011 What's that multi-colour Omega in the picture at the top of the story? I would link to it but they've somehow stopped it being anything other than blank when you right-click and paste the address into another window

NFleischer 4,355 Posted July 7, 2011 Yes I think Asians really love Swiss watches like Rolex, Omega, Tag and PAM. What about John Mayer the Rock Star, he's pretty young and a SERIOUS collector. They say his collection may be worth $20 million?! He even has a Rollie SD dial named after him.
AustinTech 0 Posted July 7, 2011 Yes, watches seem to have never lost their place in Asian fashion. I have some Asian relatives that married into our family and they also give kick arse watches as wedding gifts. My cousin got a two tone Rolex GMT ceramic from his fiancé's Dad. That's not cheap. Ugly though, but he likes it.
gtwc 1 Posted July 7, 2011 I've never really come to grips with cellphones (let alone i-pods etc) but I do like to be able to tell the time, hence a watch. In fact I hate cellphones. Never take one off (apart from when I'm swapping from my collection) or bathing.

houndoggie 58 Posted July 7, 2011 Mayer has amongst other things, a Patek Sky Moon Tourbillon, so that is in itself $1.3M.
PatronSaintofChainsaws 1 Posted July 7, 2011 He even has a Rollie SD dial named after him. Actually it's a PN Daytona dial, and it's also thought to be a fake by some of the more serious collectors: http://doubleredseadweller.com/mayerdial.html
WatchMe007 0 Posted July 7, 2011 (There was a point where I was wearing a watch and checking my phone for the time!) I do that often. It is rude to look at your wrist, but you can sneak a glance at your phone without people knowing you are checking the time. Crazy when you think that the universally understood tapping of your wrist to indicate "time"...or pantomiming glancing at your wrist to check the time...might become as old as "dialing a phone number".
