Rep newbie checking in

Recommended Posts

UK-based rep newbie checking in here :)  Always been interested in the idea of replicas of the classic watches... then recently bought a Rolex Sub homage watch, the Invicta Pro Diver two tone... then bought another Pro Diver silver bracelet... then hopped onto the 'reptime' subreddit.

I'm not loaded so even the reps are a bit steep for me, though I sorted by price low to high on a TD (trusty), and managed to find a cheap Yachtmaster with a budget 2813 movement.  I'm sure the rep veterans here will scoff, but at $128 - it was a price I could handle!

Some budget watches are spot on - no shame in going that route.

We have a TD on here who is UK based and specialises in superb quality budget watches - Narikka - see the TD list

Give him a look

Follow the advise from BadApple.

Also because the cheapo you posted the picture about it's SUPER old. Check out on the page of trusty, below the pictures, there's the date when it was added to the site. By the picture quality you posted I'd say that is at least 10 years ago... And basically nothing or nearly nothing older than a couple of years is still around now.

Thanks for this, sounds like this would save on the shipping - I paid $45 shipping for the watch from Trusty.  Though I had a click around Narikka's site and didn't see any prices, I will be sure to message him if I get hooked into the hobby more and buy more reps, I've seen a few (non-Rolly) that are really nice, after doing the standard Rolex initiation that I suspect most newbies do! :)

Yeah, I did spot that already, for the cheapo YM, it says: This product was added to our catalog on Sunday 11 November, 2012... it doesn't mention factory... I assumed it was either very old stock, or it was new versions of this one, but Andrew at Trusty didn't have time to update his website.  He says he'll be providing some QC photos of the actual watch when it gets to him from the Chinese factory, so then if it looks bad, I can request refund.

Thank you both very much for giving me advice, it's much appreciated - and I will definitely be getting in touch with Narikka for me next watch, as I do really enjoy cool watches, I just never got it together to really dig into the 'replica subculture' to find out how it all worked!  Also, for my lower budget, it does also mean I'm not too stressed if one of the watches is damaged when I'm wearing it out... for one of those $500+ reps, I would still be pretty upset if I damaged it!  Probably why I'm also still rocking a Galaxy Note 3 phone from 2013 haha :)

Welcome, just be prepared because if you push in with more budget and get a newer / top of the line rep you'll get quite a difference (even tho the Rollies from Narikaa are pretty good).

It doesn't mean necessarily a Rolex, for instance these are all top of the line reps and cost much less than a top Rolex:

etc

Damn of those, that Jaeger Lecoultre with the moonphase looks really nice!  Though after this first budget rep (either from Trusty or Narikaa, if the Trusty one looks really crappy when Andrew sends the actual QC pics)... I'll be holding off for at least a few months just to save up some pennies... the only watches I've ever had before are 20-30 ones from Argos, so even the cheaper reps are far nicer than anything I've had before :)

It was definitely these 2x Invicta Pro Diver's that I picked up cheap from Amazon Warehouse used that has sucked me in a bit!  I'm still really happy with those to be fair, even though they are homages rather than reps - could have done without the big Invicta 'wings' logo on the dial and the second hand, though maybe I can look into modding those parts one day...

Thanks again for the advice :)
