ORIS ProDiver ULTIMATE modding Part 1

Recommended Posts

KeNnY

Hey all,

so, what's up ? :) I kept this modding in little secret, but now it is time to reveal it. First lets have some look at the gen and the rep. We know

that the rep is really only ~2% of the Price of the gen, so not everything is possible (but with effort could be) to be 100% 1:1. We can now try to repair MAYOR flaws, that are noticeable as soon when you had rep and gen side by side. I maybe a little extrapolated the name of the topic, because there is not so much HARD ULTIMATE modding here :mummy: but it is still nice and I am really happy with the results. So this was small intro lets get to the pictures !

Lets have a closer look at GEN

P13.jpg

oris_prodiver_1.jpg

dsc03622799.jpg

ProDiver_028_100409med.jpg

So as you can see GEN has got seconds at 9 oclock (ETA 7750 movement clone), trihead screws near pushers, 7mm sapphire glass with colourless AR, full ceramic bezel, titanium case and of course BG-W9 lume (Like DSSD).

Now lets take a look at our Quartz REP

s6302513.jpg

s6302516.jpg

s6302622.jpg

s6302518.jpg

So now when you see REP, the difference is that it has got Quartz Miyota movement - the better one OS60, seconds at 6 oclock, recedes date due to thickness and chrono buttons, ceramic plated bezel (yes it is plated only), mineral glass with Blue tint AR (what I am a bit fan of, I like the blue ARs), Stainless steel construction what is basically 1:1 with size, the dial is a bit off, but nice catch that they have remove the AUTOMATIC from dial, normal screws new chrono buttons, and of course cheap green lume, that last 3 minutes max, and the pearl is green instead white, but it last around hour.

So what can we do with this watch for now ? Lets make it waterproof, if possible and lets relume it, shall we ? :dingleberry-nemesis: The chrono buttons are screw-able, crown is screw-able and it has got screw-able back. So It must be waterproof ! Mary said that she took the watch to watch maker, and that he tested 2 and it failed, so when I will be testing waterproofness I will do it without movement, to be safe. Lets see how the insides looks.

s6302622.jpg

s6302623.jpg

s6302624d.jpg

s6302625d.jpg

s6302626.jpg

So we have removed the dial with movement from the case, and now lets take a look at the buttons.

s6302627.jpg

Okay, nice ! 3 O-rings are in the tube, but sadly no o-rings inside the button.

s6302628.jpg

THis is plastic part from the side, I have now time to refinish the edges from the moulding process, that factory didn't have time :nana:

s6302629.jpg

HM okay we now see possible leakage around the assembly for the chrono button, we will need to seal it.

s6302630.jpg

Yes the HE valve is just button, that will be needed to be sealed also. Big risk of getting water from there, because it can be pushed really easy.

s6302631.jpg

s6302632.jpg

Well look at that ! An crystal is the same thickness like gen ! 7mm !! Well that means hard time getting the spare one if needed :dingleberry-nemesis: Mary are you here ? :) It will be hard to get this crystal like for Omega Ploprof is.

s6302633.jpg

Yes the Blue AR is from the bottom side.

s6302634.jpg

Okay the bezel is near contact with the crystal, and nothing is between to separate it, so I will need to watchout where I put the UV glue (we don't want to have glued bezel with crystal).

s6302635.jpg

Yes that small "ball" is holding the bezel in off position, too bad that now I am not possible to make it more harder to press. Maybe in future when I will have trihead screwdriver.

s6302636.jpg

I have removed the green pearl, and also some black ceramic plating, so I will need to get some white enamel paint back in.

s6302637.jpg

Nice ! :nana: I will repaint the whole bezel again when I will receive the trihead screwdriver so, for now it will be ok.

s6302638.jpg

Lets glue the crystal back to its place.

s6302639.jpg

And crystal is back and nicely glued with UV glue :nana:

s6302640.jpg

With help of screwdiver I have removed the moulding failures from the plastic part.

s6302641.jpg

Lets glue it back and arso screw the screws back in.

s6302643.jpg

I don't have trihead screws right now and also no screwdriver for these screws so we will make this mod in future (maybe) :)

s6302644.jpg

s6302645.jpg

HE valve nicelly sealed. No water will go from there again !

s6302649.jpg

Lets remove the indexies and hands. One index just fell off by him self, so I know that it would happen soon without touching it :nana:

s6302650.jpg

The dial is metal with plastic combination.

s6302651.jpg

When removing the lume dots, the lume dot also took some paint around it :mummy: well I will have to create bigger lume dots.

s6302659x.jpg

I will also relume some DSSD indexes with my Oris indexes and the small hand that represents hours of chrono in our rep.

s6302663.jpg

s6302664.jpg

I have also sealed with marine Epoxy the assembly for chrono button. No water will go from there also. Max Only from the hole where the orings are.

s6302665.jpg

I have added extra o-ring to the stem.

s6302666.jpg

And also around the tube :nana: yes it is there, with that grease.

s6302667d.jpg

Added oring to the chrono-button, so now the buttons should be waterproof ! They are screw-able so we will see !

s6302668.jpg

s6302669.jpg

Relumed hands and indexes, I will repair the indexes, where the lume got a bit off later, no problem with that. Now in this stage I did water-resistant test. 3 times, 3 times fail :D The problem is that the backside O-ring is too thin, so the water slips from the back ! :mummy: so I have ordered a bit thicker o-ring same size, so we will make water test then in part 2 :bounce:

s6302677j.jpg

Hands assembled, lume dots created, indexes repaired :bounce:

s6302678k.jpg

Back in the case, Home sweet home.

s6302679.jpg

I have also relumed the pearl, and then created pearl with jewellers epoxy. I have nice pearl ! :bounce: It is grey/white color, the photo look like ti is green but it is not.

And now the lume pictures ! Yes there is small lume particle on the dial, I will correct it today, noticed it only now when I see the pictures lol. Don't beat me :mummy: it is 5 minute fix, will upload more lume pics then. I was building it yesterday at midnight, at fast rate, wanted to wear the watch today.

s6302681.jpg

s6302682.jpg

s6302683x.jpg

s6302684.jpg

s6302685.jpg

s6302686.jpg

s6302688.jpg

Also I need to get to repaint the ceramic bezel again, looks like small dust of green lume has make a new home there.

s6302689.jpg

s6302690.jpg

s6302691.jpg

s6302693.jpg

s6302694.jpg

Overall I am really happy with the color of the lume, it is more like gen now ! :bounce: And I can see what time it is for whole night ! Yeah !!

Thank you for watching and I hope you enjoyed it ! :bounce:

:)

What? No date wheel fix???? :P Thanks for taking the time to share all those photos :)

Haha ! Yeah, the thing is, thre is dial spacer with thickness around 2-3mm. Without this dial spacer the date wheel is PERFECT, but the hands would be to far up. Another thing without this dial spacer the chrono buttons would not fit the buttons of the movement. The dial spacer is piece of metal, with created holes and window for the date.

Thank you for watching :)

Very nice work Matej !
