NFleischer 4,355 Posted August 14, 2011 I heard somewhere that the Chinese have already started cloning the SW 200 series movements. Does anyone know if this is true?
houndoggie 58 Posted August 14, 2011 I heard somewhere that the Chinese have already started cloning the SW 200 series movements. Does anyone know if this is true? well, isn't the SW200 essentially a 2824 clone?
Luthier 1 Posted August 14, 2011 It is. So, need just to change stamp for logo.
NFleischer 4,355 Posted August 14, 2011 Sellita is a different manufacturer than ETA albeit essentially a copy. I think that's not exactly the same as a Chinese copy of a Swiss movement. Theorectically when you get a SW 200 its a new 'Swiss' movement'. A Sellita clone would not be made by Sellita.
wat44 0 Posted August 15, 2011 at lest one our Dealers have seen a clone sw200 movement so the claim that sw200 is gen swiss, is not 100% guaranteed

NFleischer 4,355 Posted August 15, 2011 Someone like John is going to have to do a new thread to tell the difference between the gen & clone.
houndoggie 58 Posted August 15, 2011 Someone like John is going to have to do a new thread to tell the difference between the gen & clone. It will soon be impossible, I suppose. The super clone 2836 looks to have them same incabloc as eta.
wat44 0 Posted August 15, 2011 very hard to tell diff now unless you have time with it in your hands and you happen to be an expert!
NFleischer 4,355 Posted August 15, 2011 So I guess the new motto should be 'just buy the super clone'
greg_r 83 Posted August 15, 2011 Yup - the Sellita movement has been cloned. Dunno whether it has made it as far as reps yet, though.
Del 4,528 Posted August 15, 2011 Chinese waters are always muddy. Just when you think you know what you're buying then something new comes along. Swiss ETA, ETA clones, Swiss ETA super-clones, Sellita, Sellita clones, mega Sellita clones (made that one up )................confusing it can be!
g.man 0 Posted August 15, 2011 If these "Clone Wars" confuse even Yoda, then what chance do the rest of us have? g.man
Member X 91 Posted August 15, 2011 If the clone / superclone movements are as good as the genuine movements but cheaper, I'm all fine with that lol
prestigewatchco 2 Posted August 15, 2011 Stelita clones are pretty obvious at the moment . Finish on the Gen selita varies with grade of movement also it goes from basic to very high quality finish. Although on the gen the basic internal finish is the same so only cosmetic benefits to the higher grade versions. pointless if the watch has a solid case back and not worth the extra
