Watchdevil 0 Posted August 20, 2011 Hello everyone glad to be here with such an array of informative watch posts. My question is, can any of these reps be trusted in the surf? I surf regularly and need a new watch I can wear in the water. Do any reps actually survive such abuse, if so which ones can you suggest? I also love a tide feature on my watch, any reps have that? chum_2000_uk 0 Posted August 20, 2011 Have a search mate, lots of info about waterproofing. Simple answer is grease/ get someone to grease the O rings, then get it tested. High tide will be about an hour later every day. Everything change on a coastline dependent n the tide, good to know! Other dude I'll get one and test it first then I guess. trailboss99 994 Posted August 20, 2011 Never seen a working tide times complication on a rep, worse luck. for a surf watch stick to a non chrono model (less holes) such as a sub, Planet Ocean or Super Ocean. myaz 3 Posted August 20, 2011 I recently bought a rep that was supposed to be water resistant but failed a test so HEED the above advice about post purchase testing. I used to surf TX with occasional trips to baja, hawaii (no north shore) and lower pacific mexican coast from Mazatlan to Puerto Escondido. Never had a problem with any of the watches I wore through the years but you didn't say where you surfed. Cheers! I surf. Take a look at this picture... I've had the blue and black ones tested recently and they were water proof to 200 metres. That's more than enough pressure and abuse in the water. That Nixon is a dedicated water watch for surfing. Good to 300 metres (again, way more than you need). Has the tide complication you're looking for. It is huge compared to the other watches and that's the most important. I can read the time underwater very easily and just glancing at it as my arm passes my face in a full paddle stroke. When I'm sitting in the line-up and my hands are under the water surface, I don't even lift it to my face to read, I can see it very easily. The crown is also left facing so it never contacts your hand. The reps are fantastic watches but I suggest that you to keep your needs seperate. Get a watch that is purpose built for surfing and another that can easily go into the water but is really much more at home with a french cuff, cufflinks and a tailored suit. I surf a lot with a wetsuit and you will have to make sure your watch strap or bracelet can either be different sizes or has a diver's extension. To be honest with you, I don't think I ever want to be sitting out in the line-up with a Rolex on (real or fake). Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

So a good upgrade, and I'll find another band for it too. Thanks again great responses, but still not sure what that face palm was all about! Ha ha!
