seoulbrova 0 Posted September 12, 2011 Received this watch this past weekend from my aunt. It belonged to an uncle I was close with who passed away due to cancer. I was visiting their family and she gave me this watch. I have no idea as to the authenticity or model, etc. He was somewhat wealthy so I suppose it could be a gen, but maybe he was wealthy because he bought reps. In either case, I will not be selling since it holds sentimental value, but I would like to what you guys seem to think about this watch. It does not have sapphire, it feels plastic like when I tap the glass, but the movement sweeps cleanly. Looks to be 28 not 21 beats. Thanks http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/836/imag0676d.jpg/ http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/571/imag0677y.jpg/ http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/849/imag0675.jpg/ Sorry I couldn't get the images to upload directly. houndoggie 58 Posted September 12, 2011 I'd say it looks to a vintage Datejust. Crystal is tall plexi. My gut says genuine.
greg_r 83 Posted September 12, 2011 yup - I'd second HD's opinion. Gen. Vintage datejust. Nice watch

seoulbrova 0 Posted September 12, 2011 Should the magnifying crystal line up exact / centered to the date? It looks centered on some angles, but looks slightly off on others. It doesn't help that there's also a big gash/chip on the magnifying glass. I thought about getting it polished and replacing the glass, but the distressed look has a certain charm to it as well. Member X 91 Posted September 12, 2011 Only 100% guaranteed way to verify is to get the back off and look at the movement, which a Rolex AD / secondhand dealer might be willing to do for a small fee. Looks really nice though! (but needs a bracelet IMO )
King 0 Posted September 12, 2011 The datewheel font looks a bit off to me, but it could just be the pics -- I'm by no means an expert, particularly when it comes to vintage watches. I'd pop the back off and have a look at the movement if you wanted to be sure. I wouldn't polish it or replace the glass, but that's just me. Nice watch! Luthier 1 Posted September 12, 2011 Don't pop back off, there's the thread. It's a gen. Rolley, not your quartz Timex.
