turnipz 0 Posted September 15, 2011 Quick question, was just wondering if anyone knows if movement spacers are required or not, could you just clamp the movement to the case and skip them entirely?

Archaon 4 Posted September 15, 2011 Quick question, was just wondering if anyone knows if movement spacers are required or not, could you just clamp the movement to the case and skip them entirely? I guess it would be unwise... You would expose the stem (this piece that connects the crown to the movement) to high constraints, you will eventually break the stem. Other problem I foresee is the fact that a lot (if not all) the dials are tied to the movement. Therefore not having movement spacer will make the movement budge inside the case of the watch and you will have a watch with a dial moving around in the case... not pretty... If you can really clamp/screw, attach the movement to the case then i guess you could avoid using it. but not all the reps have a way to attach the movement to the case. Archaon 4 Posted September 15, 2011 Damn, okay thanks guys. If this is not a high end replica, you can try and build a spacer yourself. I didn't think of this before, but i guess you need to use a material for the spacer that: - is reasonably shock-proof - doesn't fall/degrade into small pieces to avoid pieces going into the movement - hard enough to keep the movement in place. Plastic is an obvious one, but not easy to build yourself. Wood could do if you put something on it that avoid the wood falling into small parts.
