JohnG 41 Posted July 31, 2009 nice treadvintage homage is cool... here my cali with rolex motor Wow that's gorgeous! Some serious watch porn there. Yes, ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!!! Really really beautiful watch VDB! I love the lume, the movement, the strap, the hands, EVERYTHING.... @Massimo, I have been reading, and the parts for most of these movements (the Elgin especially) are not hard to find. You can even find NOS parts for the Elgin 17j 16 ligne movements... Seen quite a few for sale since I started looking. The most common SERIOUS problem is the "balance staff" (the axis shaft for the balance wheel) breads because they didn't have shock protection still. Anyway, if I can't get it running, I just resell it. On RG for twice the money.
JohnG 41 Posted July 31, 2009 Also, Massimo, I found a tutorial on fixing hair springs - even bent, tangled ones can be fixed often times, but I guess there is one kind that is easier (or less hard) than the other kind.... Anyway, may be possible to salvage....

pollux1 3 Posted July 31, 2009 I'd love to have a vintage movement in a decent case, whether PAM homage or not, for me the inside counts a lot.

JohnG 41 Posted August 1, 2009 Good pick-up John...just noticed you've gone 'postwhore' on us... edit: whats the cal. no. of the gen Rolex movement used in the 'Cali'? 618? 616? Can't remember. All that stuff is over at RWG.cc - and I linked to a thread that has most of the important info.... but now I don't remember where that link is either.... Might be in the thread: watches24seven.... JohnG 41 Posted August 1, 2009 Well I set the snipe low on that non-working Elgin, decided, why bother, there are a TON of these watches, LOTS of them have very very pretty decorations. Here is a WORKING Waltham and a Hamilton that I will bid within the next 48 hours:

Anyway, may be possible to salvage.... Good news. I've been hankering after a pocket watch, don't know why since I'd never wear it, but I'd had my fingers burned with an old 20s Trench Watch that I couldn't get fixed, so have been cautious since. Might start looking on the Bay again :-)
JohnG 41 Posted August 1, 2009 I am going to pick this up from Burgeon - was going to ask after dial only, but then thought, hey, the watch is what I need: Dial, 47mm Radiomir case, Dome acrylic crystal, I can pull the 6497 in it and sell it for $25 shipped no problem, reduces my cost on the watch by half (if no one bids and right now 0 bids with less than 22 hours to go). Then I put in one of the above movements. Vintagize the case, dial, hands, put on a vitagized strap, voila! Cheap vintage Pam homage!
houndoggie 58 Posted August 1, 2009 Great piece to vintage.. That of course is PAM 2533, the first one, and only one is in existence. I bought the rep of it for too much and had it sterilized and vintaged:
JohnG 41 Posted August 1, 2009 Love it HD, was just wondering, if you were doing my project, would you lume it? I am wondering, do I do old weak vintagized lume, vintagized hands with non-functioning lume, or good lume, vintagized? In other words, lume that screams at night but during the day is accurate vintage looking? I love lume but think that the watch to be faithful to the idea, should have very weak lume, if at all. Maybe just vintagize whatever comes on it (which will be weak I am sure).
houndoggie 58 Posted August 1, 2009 More pics from Harley357 who did the work, unfortunately he is retired from this stuff.

Lume is nice and vintage looking.
houndoggie 58 Posted August 1, 2009 Also, it was done in such a way that the lume has expanded to partially fill the indices for a nice bloated vintage lume look.
JohnG 41 Posted August 1, 2009 I love the hands/case but the dial looks a little weird - like a mud pie. I don't know what it should look like, so fora I know, that is accurate....
trailboss99 994 Posted August 1, 2009 Great work all. VDB you humble all of us, that is stunning! John, those old MVTs are beautyfull works of art. You could easily just have a collection of MVts displayed they are so nice. Col.
