IWC Portuguese Automatic Edition to Support Laureus Sport for Good Foundation

For the fourth time, IWC Schaffhausen offers its support to the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, having created a special edition watch. The new Portuguese Automatic, the highly-successful IWC watch with distinctive design and supreme functionality, follows the steps of the Portuguese Chrono-Automatic created to support the Foundation in 2006, the Pilot Watch Chrono-Automatic in 2007 and the Da Vinci Chronograph in 2008.

The IWC Portuguese Automatic Edition Laureus Sport for Good Foundation watch will be available in a limited number of 1,000 pieces. The timepiece is animated by a mechanical IWC-in-house 51011-calibre movement, incorporating a Pellaton winding mechanism that gives an advantage of a 7-day power reserve. The movement animates a large-format date, as well as a small seconds hand and an indicator for the power reserve left presented via separate sub-dials.

The dial of the timepiece, created in signature Laureus blue, is harmoniously balanced, striking by its clarity and simplicity.

As already a worthy tradition, IWC Schaffhausen organizes a painting competition among children within the projects supported by the Foundation throughout the world.

The painting of the competition winner is engraved on a medallion featured by the case back of the special edition watch. This year, 12-year-old K.D. Sriyan Chamod Dilshan from Sri Lanka became the winner, having reflected the theme of "Team spirit" in his painting. He depicted four young people who hold hands in a circle. The engraving is a good reminder that part of the proceeds received from the watch sales will support projects developed by Laureus for underprivileged children from socially disadvantaged backgrounds of the world.

All buyers of the IWC Portuguese Automatic Edition Laureus Sport for Good Foundation watch will get a copy of the book devoted to 10 of the over 65 projects of the Foundation for underprivileged children.

The Laureus Sport for Good Foundation has already helped more than 750,000 children and young people throughout the world who suffered from poverty, war, violence, drug addiction, discrimination, racism and HIV/ Aids.

The stainless steel case of the IWC watch, 42.3mm in diameter, incorporates a convex sapphire crystal provided with antireflective coating. It is coupled with a blue alligator leather strap fitted with a stainless steel folding clasp. The timepiece, reviewed by Watches.InfoNIAC.com, is 30-meter water-resistant.
