greg_r 82 Posted October 28, 2009 Right now it looks like we have the following options: 1. PHPchat - which seems to use almost as many resources as the shoutbox - I've just downloaded it to play with on my test server, but I have my doubts. 2. IRC: which is fine, but if we link to one of the major networks we're going to get a LOT of spammers and other numbwits appearing on random occasions (which is why I quit being an IRCop a few years back - just got fed up with the signal to noise ratio). We could set up an IRC server, but it's more effort than I really want to get into right now. 3. Stick with the shoutbox, but increase the lag to reduce overhead - I'm going to tweak some settings and see what happens while I search for other options. 4. Switch hosts. $$$$$ Edit: whoops. 5. Integrate one of the free chat applets that are around (thanks for that link, Novesh) - will require a bit of coding, but is a possibility. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
