Del 4,463 Posted April 14, 2012 I tried to sell this recently - glad I didn't now! Took a couple of fresh pics today - it still looks great after just over 3 years of ownership. It just runs without any fuss with the perpetual calendar, never needs a battery thanks to solar charging, has dual time, a chronograph and even an alarm. When it's in the dark it automatically shuts down the running seconds (large hand) to save power and when you bring it back into the light the second hand whizzes round the dial to where it should be so no time is ever lost - clever! Nice lume too! Eco-Drive 1 by Bjorn Dajoak, on Flickr Eco-Drive 2 by Bjorn Dajoak, on Flickr

watch.aholic 538 Posted April 14, 2012 Great pics Del......I've got one of these too and can only agree that this indeed is a fantastic watch....zero maintenance....I love the fact that it don't need any batteries, ever and it'd never miss a beat....you just pick it up and the second hands gets out of hibernation, sweeps down to it's current place as per memory and starts ticking from there....I can't believe it that one can pick this up 'used' for a bit over $200....The dial is a waffle dial (speaking from memory here since my watch is sitting in a box 10000kms away) and is not black but it's dark blue...... offshore 0 Posted April 15, 2012 Gotta agree that these are great watches, however just one word of caution here guys! Whilst these don't have a battery as such, they do have an accumulator, which is just a rechargeable battery, (but costs about X5), and just like your car battery, they will clap out, (normally around 8-10 years) Seiko have a similar watch which is the kinetic, powered by a rotor running a generator rather than solar, but same/similar power set up. Just be aware that there will be a replacement accumulator required at around 10 years ownership, and every ten years thereafter. Cost is $45.00 to up to $200.00 if you take it back to Citizen. Offshore I had an issue with one of the first seiko kinetics where there was something else that needed to be replaced as well, like a resistor or something.. looks like I'm up for some dosh in a few years. Faarrrk. here's my collection of Citizens.
Dr Yan 8 Posted April 15, 2012 Nice collection schmooze. They sometimes call the accumulator / rechargeable battery a capacitor.
schmooze 0 Posted April 15, 2012 Nice collection schmooze. They sometimes call the accumulator / rechargeable battery a capacitor. from memory i think that's what they called it, a capacitor. I purchased a $500.00 seiko kinetic for my wife in the mid 90's and it didn't last anywhere near 3 years. Then the AD service bloke wanted a few hundred to change it. It lies idle these days. Faarrrk. here's my collection of Citizens. Probably a capacitor, which is just another name for them. If you have no problem changing a battery, you can do these as well. In some instances there are a few bits to be removed to get to the accumulator ( cover plates etc), and you need to take note of how it sits in its holder before removing, as there are special contact points to line up. But if you know the model # of your watch, talk to Trailboss, as I happen to know he has access to these through the RWG shop at VERY competitive prices!
