swiss eta 2824-2 vs asian clone -2836-2

Recommended Posts

So i'm about to buy another rep ( omega UPO 45.5 as my main dive summer watch) and saw that it comes in these two movements:

Swiss Eta 2824-2 Automatic 25j 28800bph

Asian Clone 2836-2 Automatic 28800bph

so I know they both have the same bph.... and one is a actual swiss and one is asian, but just wondering which one is more likely to be trouble free and will last the longest, be cheapest to work on....etc. There is a 100.00 cost difference in these two models and which it is money if the swiss eta will last twice as long... give me no problems and look twice as good I'll drop it in this watch. If not i'm going to drop it into another watch I have my eye on that I want bad.

That is the golden question. I've had both and had great luck with both. Sometimes the Swiss movement are not new and cannibalized with parts from other swiss movements and clone movements. Clones are probably most always new, but not to the same exact standards and controls as the swiss. I personally think the eta clones are the best value. Keep in mind, I've never dissected a movement, my experience is anecdotal and strictly from having owned 100 reps. I'm sure one of the movement experts would be better qualified to answer.

have you contacted the dealer and they stated the swiss is available?

this might be a moot point

It is moot, not mute. Mute means you can't speak.

If you don't mind misspellings on your movement then I'd say Clone. Same movement for a cheaper price.

Check out this guide from Greg. From what he says and what I've read I'd say go clone.
