Waterproofing a 45,5mm Ceramic PO from WI

Recommended Posts

ron76

The wife was away for the evening and the kids were asleep, so I tried to do my first mod.

Waterproofing a ceramic PO.

All the tools I need:

First... the PO, some tools, Loctite 3090 ( this is great stuf, I have used this on some metal pipes and it held up to 8 atm), Molycote (a lube that is used by NASA), acid free and keeps the gaskets from sticking to metal), toothpics and a bottle of Merlot.

First step is taken, now way back now.

Removed the caseback stem, rotor, movementholderringthingies????????? and movement holder ring.

Take the movement out, and the O-ring (we will grease that up later)

God I love tupperware:P it keeps everything dustfree.

I'm no watchsmith so this was very stressfull for me and I needed another drink.

I used the Loctite 3090 to close the HE valve.

I wanted to seal it from inside, but when you screw the HE valve in, there's a thingy (english is not my native language) comming into the case.

So I glued the thread from the outside, the HE valve is now faux as you can't turn it anymore.

It is however, SEALED.

Next step was geasing the O-rings.

There's one in the hole were the stem goes thru and one that's between the case and caseback.

This is were I used the toothpicks, to apply the Molycote.

As I said, this is great stuff but it's fairly sticky and kinda hard so it takes some time to put it on AND to clean the stuff you put on too much

As you can clearly see from the picture above, this is hard work.

So not only the watch is greased up, I needed some lube and filled up my glass again.

SOOOOOOOO, the moment of truth.

I dont have a pressure tester (that is fit for watches), but a glass of water and some swirling around in the sink will do for now.

Result, swimming proof :)

Putting the movement back in was a walk in the park except for this little fucker.

But after some of this it all endend well.

Waterproofing15.jpg

Movement back in place.

Front.

Movement isn't upside down, so thats a good thing.

Waterproofing17.jpg

Since I wasn't going to do much else this evening I thought I would give the bracelet and clasp a new finish.

This is how it ended up.
