richardm1142 0 Posted September 15, 2012 OK I'm a taking the back off the watch virgin, and a trifle nervous. Just recieved my new IWC Doppel from Toro and all was perfect on arrival. Wore the watch this afternoon to a football match and spent some time clapping, cheering and generaly throwing my arms around. Realised the watch had stopped. Loose rotor sound from within the case. Arrived home and thought ok, what the hell, let's take a look. Opened case, removed rotor cover and the rotor itself was lying limp inside, with apparently no screw securing it. Can't find any trace of said securing screw within case. Watch wont wind from crown. Would it most likely be screw is lying, buried deep, stopping the action? Or is there the possibility it was never there? Any advice much appreciated
Hazz 0 Posted September 15, 2012 You wil prob find that the screw is somewhere, but it is so small, get a magnifier, out and have a close look, sounds as if it is locked in a tooth.
P4GTR 0 Posted September 15, 2012 its in there somewhere... Can you get us a big pic, maybe we can have a look? Tap the watch a bit, see if you can tap it loose.
richardm1142 0 Posted September 15, 2012 Thanks for coming back so quick No rattles so if it's in there, it is jammed The crown will definately not rotate in one direction when in the handwind position. Just cannot see anything in wrong place (like the damn screw) As to pictures, not so good on the macro but hope these may assist
UmpaHimself 223 Posted September 15, 2012 That sucks man. Good luck. I feel for you. I baby my 7750
Or4n6e 25 Posted September 15, 2012 The same thing happen to my dssd eta, the little sucker was hidden under the hairspring on mine. Hope you find it.
richardm1142 0 Posted September 15, 2012 When I (very, very, very gently) rotate the crown clockwise in the handwind position, the gear circled starts to move then jams. The crown rotates freely when rotated anti clockwise. In the day/date adjust and hand adjust positions it's fine.
Hazz 0 Posted September 15, 2012 don't turn the crown again, can you remove crown and stem, may shift the screw a little, if stuck there.
Luthier 1 Posted September 15, 2012 If you can't wind the watch by crown, you know, where to search, right? 美好的事物只留给那些有准备的人
Or4n6e 25 Posted September 15, 2012 I held mine over a plastic lunch box and gentle tapped the watch till the screw fell out...
Del 4,518 Posted September 15, 2012 That's a bummer mate. But the screw will be in there somewhere - good luck.
richardm1142 0 Posted September 15, 2012 If you can't wind the watch by crown, you know, where to search, right? Hey this is scary stuff for a virgo intactus. Stem out and then mechanism out? Worried!
richardm1142 0 Posted September 15, 2012 Yeee haa! did the above and nothing. Gave the mechanism a couple of gentle taps and out came the bastarding screw and before I could even say Fu....... the mechanism was off and running. Simples to return to a together state and the world is all beautiful again. Thanks for your support gentlemen, I'm off for a quiet drink to steady the nerves. richardm1142 0 Posted September 15, 2012 One time when telling Rochest that I was not in a newbie style panic and to take it easy, we had a little discussion on the English "All good things come to those who wait" and Rochest came up with the foregoing. Liked it and added as my sig

10:10 Watch Repair 1 Posted September 15, 2012 When you put the screw back, make sure to rotate the rotor a few times in both directions and then check again for tightness. Something that the assemblers seem to rarely do. I find screws stuck in movements all the time.

10:10 Watch Repair 1 Posted September 15, 2012 More than just double checking, you're making sure the gears are meshing. That's why they come loose so frequently.
