Gen Bezel Insert for Submariner

Recommended Posts

prelude91

Recently picked up a BK Sub, and it is absolutely amazing. However, i can't get over the pearl, it just isn't cutting it for me compared to the gen. I have been able to find a couple of gen bezel inserts for reasonable price, however I have a few questions for the experts here:

1. The obvious question; will a gen bezel fit a rep sub?

2. I see several different model numbers for the inserts (16610, 16800, 168000, etc), is there a specific insert I would need?

3. How difficult of a job is this? I have seen some Youtube videos and they made it look fairly easy, but realistically could this be done by a guy who has little experience "fixing" watches?

4. Any other obvious information I should know about before I dive into this?

I did a search on the forum, but didn't find any threads on this topic.

Thanks all!

Most gen inserts will not fit. You would have to sand and then glue it.

You might want to get just a pearl from Wholesaleoutlet on ebay or from Watchmaterial.com

Which model sub do you have? That will tell you which insert you may want to buy.

Might sound crazy, but I honestly don't know which version I have, the latest one that BK sells is my best response.

I'll check into the pearl replacement.

Thanks.

That's ceramic. If you find a Gen insert, it will cost a lot and be very difficult to modify to fit.

I would suggest replacing the pearl if you must, but it would have to be relumed to match the blue.

OK thanks. I actually believe it is a Sub-C if that means anything. The pearl is good by rep standards so maybe I will just leave as is.

I appreciate your help.

Thanks for clarifying. Will see what the going rate for this bezel is and decide what to do.

I have a BK sub on order as of today myself!

I'd forget about getting a Gen Ceramic bezel. I've never seen one on Ebay. Even if you find one, you're not going to be able to mod it if it doesn't fit.

For the non ceramic, they're usually at least $150 used. More if really good condition.

My advice...

If the pearl issue is driving you that crazy, get a GMT2c!
