ETA H3 cannon pinion pictorial

Recommended Posts

Silverspeed

This morning I finally replaced the standard rep-cannon pin on my PAM 183 with the ETA H3 cannon pin from Flavor Flav.

After reading a lot and getting some tools I went for it today......and took pics at every step....

First of all some coffee....quite important after spending probably too much time in the local pub Saturday night...

Here it is, I already took off the strap

To take the back case of I used a ball made of Duck-Tape works perfect...

Next I took out the crown and stem and placed all the tiny bits in small container

DSC01209_bewerkt-1-copy.jpg

After this it is time to take out the movement

DSC01210_bewerkt-1-copy.jpg

Here it is movement is out and now time to take the hand off the dial with a Presto hand remover

DSC01211_bewerkt-1-copy.jpg

Before I removed the hands I placed a small piece off paper around the hand to protect the dial

DSC01214_bewerkt-1-copy.jpg

With the Presto hand remover those hands came off very easy

DSC01215_bewerkt-1-copy.jpg

Now it was time to remove the dial and by flipping over the movement the 'decorated plate' fell off.....a well shit happens and then you move on

DSC01217_bewerkt-1-copy.jpg

There you go the dial separated from the movement and you can see the cannon pin which is way too small

DSC01219_bewerkt-1-copy.jpg

Time to move on and take out the hour wheel and the Keyless-cover and finally the minute wheel before you can pull out the cannon pin

with the hand remover

DSC01224_bewerkt-1-copy.jpg

Now with the standard cannon-pin taken out you can really see the difference between standard one the left and the ETA H3 on the right

DSC01226_bewerkt-1-copy.jpg

With all the bits and pieces taken out this what you'll end up with.......

DSC01227_bewerkt-1-copy.jpg

Since I never had taken out a movement before this scared the shit out of me so time for some coffee...

DSC01228_bewerkt-1-copy.jpg

With a caffeine shot it was time to install the ETA cannon pin...I used my hand setter and pressed the cannon pin on with a click

DSC01229_bewerkt-1-copy.jpg

Then you put back the minute wheel, keyless cover and slide on the hour wheel

DSC01232_bewerkt-1-copy.jpg

Now lets move on and install the dial on to the movement

DSC01235_bewerkt-1-copy.jpg

Then I followed the advice from Flavor Flav to sand down the inner-tube of the minute hand almost to the hand. I used sandpaper no.400 some patience and caffeine....worked like a charm...

DSC01238_bewerkt-1-copy.jpg

With this done you place the hands back, I used the hand setter with came with the Presto hand remover, check and double check if the hands run freely and put the movement back in the case

All in all I'm quite satisfied with the end result.....it was fun doing
