226600b 0 Posted October 18, 2012 I am about to order my first rep watch , a sub c with swiss movement and one of my employees brought me a rep sub c into work for sale and it looked and felt great but I noticed the second hand did not have the nice smooth sweeping motion that I always see on rolex. The guy told me that the new gen sub c does not have the smooth motion second hand anymore, it has that tic tic tic motion. Is this true or is he trying to sell me a cheap rep with a bad movement? devedander 0 Posted October 18, 2012 Remember that while a Rolex and good rep will "smooth sweep" it's not perfectly smooth... it's 8 ticks per second. A cheap rep will probably be 5 ticks per second. On a smaller dial watch the 5 vs 8 ticks per second can be hard to tell. On a dial the size of a chrono dial you would not be able to tell at all... on a date just it would be a hard call, on a 45 upo or bigger you can pretty easily tell but it's still fairly smooth from a distance. A quartz will tick 1 time per second and is obviously quartz. So when you say it wasn't smooth, do you just mean it was a little more jerky, or it jumped every second? If it's the latter, it's a cheap quartz. If its the former, it might be a cheap 21j rep or you might just have it in your mind a rolex sweep is smoother than it really is.
