Rolex 40mm Milgauss w/Green Sapphire

Recommended Posts

AllergyDoc

I received this watch this week. I purchased it from Daytona4Me on RWI as part of his "group buy." $122 shipped via EMS. It has the 21J Asian movement. Everything else about the watch is supposed to be the same as the ETA model, which was about $110 more. Shipping was slow because in his group buys he waits until he has orders for 5 watches to keep the price down.

The first watch arrived week before last. The clasp fell apart and I could not get the pin to stay in. Also, I scratched the bezel with the razor I used to cut the plastic tape off the bubble wrap. That's never happened before. Greg replaced the watch outright. Nice of him to do so.

This is the 40mm new Milgauss with green sapphire, as the title indicates. The older model was 36mm. I have one Evergreen gave me but I've never worn it. I showed it to my wife and told her she could have it, but she thought it looked "dorky." What does she know?

The green is quite noticeable at certain angles. At other angles, you can just see the green around the edge of the crystal.

This clasp was fine, if a little stiff to open. The clasp on the one EG gave me pops open with very little pressure. I was afraid it would fall off if I wore it.

Couple of extra dial shots:

Old and new, for size and crystal comparison:

The dial printing on the older ETA version is crisper:

How much it will be worn remains to be seen. Not really a dress watch. Not really a sport watch. A science guy watch?

Nice watch, Doc. You're getting to be quite the photographer.

I picked up the same watch from PWC right before the group buy. I really like it but haven't even taken the wrappings off the band yet. Just too many watches and too little time.

Saw this on RWI whilst browsing T4D

T4D's 'budget' Milgauss

Roll up roll up......... lets hear your CANDID opinions on this, forget the budget aspect.

Is this a good copy of the Rolex original or not? :D

what are the obvious flaws?

It looks like the 36mm one to me. Better check on that.

Your better off getting the one like Doc's for a little more $. Especially since I have one I'd let go for a reasonable price that's only been worn maybe once.

PM me if you're interested.
