Omega Planet Ocean Liquidmetal 42mm - pic review

Recommended Posts

boneyjr

To the best of my knowledge, this is the first rep of this model reviewed on the forums. I just took delivery of it over the weekend, and I am very pleased. (it was in the hands of our very own HWG for about 24 hours before I snatched it up from him.) This is a rep of the limited edition liquidmetal model (only 1948 gens made). This is from puretime at the following link:

http://www.puretime.co/product/planet-ocean-42mm-ss-black-ceramic-on-bracelet-a2836/

The dial and bezel have a lovely gloss finish (accurate to the gen) that really dresses it up, and the Omega emblem is very cool. The blue lume isn't bad at all -- not superlume, but better than your average rep.

At 42mm, I don't mind the smaller size; however, I wish the lugs were 22mm instead of 20mm.

On to the pics:

Enticing. How's the caseback inking? The one at Puretime looks pretty shabby for a $250+ rep.

The crown look very big! A little too big perhaps?

The case back isn't bad at all, but the crown and He valve do sit a bit high.

Thank you for posting the pictures. Do we think most of the trusted dealers are going to start stocking this? Might email Reg as he is in Thailand at the moment.

The watch came from Toro... so I would assume all of our TD's can get it.

*yawn* Another PO rep. These are getting more boring than the latest, greatest, better than the 500 previous sub. POs are like Toyota Corrolas - too many varients and none of them interesting anymore.

my thoughts exactly!

anyway, what is the bezel like? I watched the video on the Omega website showing the process to make the liquidmetal bezel, obvioulsy the reps aren't going to be forged/pressed etc like this.

So how is the bezel made on the rep? Alloy with a gloss over? Does it seem pretty hard wearing? The only thing thats put me off the original version is the metal bezel that i would end up scratching!

I really love this gen version of this watch but not too sure about the rep being that accurate, especially the bezel.

Please tell me I'm wrong! Might be worth waiting for a year or so to let them iron out any probs, v2 or v3 at some poingt I'm sure!!

I forgot to ask about the case back, will they rep a clear back as per gen with a cloned/decorated mvt at some point do you think?

I would seriously suggest sending that watch to Jeff and have him do a side by side comparison review.....

One thing i notice right off the bat is the rep not having a clear caseback.

The case also doesn't extend into a partial crown guard which is much more of a tell in normal wear.

Yeap, HE valve a bit off, crown bigger and case dimension a bit off, still, this is the first of many to come with later improvements, this things are hard to notice with the naked eye. Still a beautiful piece, I want one!

enjoy it!!

Decisions, decisions... go for an orange PO now, or wait for a later version of this one?

Of course, the obvious answer is both ;-)
