Looking for a "could be that..."

Recommended Posts

I have a Molnija 3602 that was working perfectly. I had disassembled it. When I re-assembled it, the balance no longer swings freely. It pivots but does not swing. Any suggestions as to what happened? :help:

Thanks in advance!

I'm no expert, but it sounds like you broke it ;)

The balance is not back in it's jewels yet and you probably did not line the pin up with the yoke. This is a TINY pin so be careful you do not break it off!

So i thought i would take another try at it. After seeing if I could reinstall the staff, i see that the spring is resting on the balance wheel. I think i bent the spring out of shape at some point. :(

It still sounds to me like the balance is not seated properly or like you said you bent something. You did not twist the hairspring over on itself, did you?

It looks like the spring is loaded to one side.

What happens if you take it back off? Does the spring stay like that?

I have taken it off a and put it back on a few times since i started this thread. When i first removed the balance bridge i guess i pried too hard. The bridge popped off, the balance was still under the center wheel with the spring stretched across the movement and the bridge hanging off the opposite side of the movement.
