racingclub 0 Posted December 29, 2012 Looking for hints and links to improve my incoming Comex - confused about what's a decent bezel insert, whether I should go for a replacement crystal etc. Also considering sending to RA for him to sprinkle his magic. I'd like this one to look nicely vintage. Here's a QC pic from the TD - I paid a little extra for Swiss ETA. Not much of a criticism, but the pearl area looks a bit poor to me, but they do on all the examples I've seen.
James. 4 Posted December 29, 2012 http://www.replica-w...your-92860.html Pretty easy, I did most of the steps to my 300 (except the faded bezel 'cause the omega ones don't fade) ;
racingclub 0 Posted December 29, 2012 Thanks for the linky - love your work, looks fantastic! More questions, maybe this should go in flame-free ...like... What does a Tropic crystal or bezel insert get me over the rep version?
andepad 0 Posted December 31, 2012 Semaj pointed me to the link above... Very useful! I applied some of the methods to a similar watch (Comex)...(especially the dial) Ended up the following: http://www.rwg.bz/board/index.php?showtopic=40431&view=findpost&p=705238 I "mildly" age the bezel (Bleach n scotchbrite) and the case/bracelet (mainly scotchbrite) ... does not show up very well in above photo as I was focusing more on the dial for this particular photo. For my watch - I ordered a Bezel from Clark (ebay) but does not fit. You may want to measure before ordering Bezel /crystal... All the best!
JohnPilot 1 Posted December 31, 2012 I have since last year the same, also with gen ETA. I only did some aging to the case and glass and put on a Nato strap. Indexes will be one day painted with aged lume, like Kenny did it on his GMT.

baxter 6 Posted January 10, 2013 looks like a pretty good first attempt to me - what did you use to colour the dial/hands ?
racingclub 0 Posted January 10, 2013 Hey Jez - started with tea with not much success, so moved into the missus's watercolour paints & dried with a hairdrier.
baxter 6 Posted January 10, 2013 good work - just been reading bonseys tutorial - i'm going to have to get some tools and a couple of cheapies and dive in !! how difficult was taking the watch apart ?
racingclub 0 Posted January 10, 2013 I actually cheated.... Popped the bezel off easily and the crystal came out with it, leaving me with the bare dial. I painted the dial with the hands still attached and worked around them. The bezel insert got dunked in bleach for 20 mins. I also aged the case with the movement still inside, I just masking tape over the crystal as I shook it around with some nails. The crystal got some gentle treatment with a fine piece of wet and dry.
