black263 228 Posted January 6, 2013 Hi, I've never taken the back off a watch in my life, and would like to start playing. However, I don't want to bugger up my reps and in truth anything I first start on is going to end up as scrap before my skills improve. So is there any advice on getting hold of some dirt cheap mechanicals to play with. I know there are some really cheap sites out there, but there is a big difference between cheap rubbish with good delivery, and paying to see nothing at the end of it. Any advice? scorpion 0 Posted January 6, 2013 plenty of really cheap homages on eBay... +1 - you can get auto movement watches from around £15 delivered on ebay, I have a couple of Kronen&Söhne Breitling Bentley Homages that cost £21 each delivered with exhibition backs that have auto movements in them. offshore 0 Posted January 6, 2013 Try car boot sales (or your local equivalent). Loads of non-working gens of very obscure brands - who knows, you may bag a bargain ! Absolutely, You will pay $1 per watch if you bargain well, especially for a quantity. The sellers get scared when you single out a specific watch, as they then think they have something worth some money. So just try the 'how much for that lot?" and then offer what you will pay. (Helps if there is a bargain in there as well! ) O/S
