alistairw 0 Posted March 27, 2010 Hi all, How good can a Rep be, I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder. As a lover of Rolex Sub's, the reality check confirmed I wasn't going to have a Gen in this life time unless I won the Lotto. As my wife remind's me a 'watch is a watch' but that's what she says! The Black Submariner is from Mary. I wanted as close to the Gen as possible so the order was placed for the Ceramic Black bezel with Swiss ETA movement. The photos below are the same photos Mary sent me prior to despatch, I had requested photos of my watch, as I was aware she was happy to do so. They looked sensational, but would the watch look as good in the fresh? On arrival a quick glance suggested this watch looked the business. On reading articles on Reps, I now knew what to look for in this watch. Rolex Etching @ 6.00 - very hard to see visiable under an eye glass in the correct postion. Correct lining of the letter M's - perfectly aligned. Blue Lume - perfect glows all night. Correct embossing of ROLEX arond inside of case - correct start point - beautiful. Second hand lume circle and lume dots to correct size - very close. Crown guard height versus crown - looks close to perfect. Bracelet finish and clasp design - correct with beautiful lustre. Does the watch maintain good time - yes as expected of an automatic (+15 secs per day and monitering) The million dollar question - does the watch look a million dollars? Without a doubt, to an untrained eye (and a trained eye) it would be hard to distinguish the Rep from the Gen. This watch is the greatest pleasure to wear and enjoy, I highly recommend if you are in the market for a Sub look no further. This is my Black Sub enjoy the pics:

trailboss99 997 Posted March 27, 2010 Mate, that is one very nice looking sub! KBH: what do you think of those CGs mate? They look one of the closer attempts to me. Anyone ID what V this is? Even the back is satin under where the hologram would be instead of rough. How much did you pay for this mate? Col.

KBH 7 Posted March 27, 2010 The CG's are too fat but everything else is very nice. Squaring off the inside of the CG's makes it almost perfect. The harder part is taking off a little of the outside of the CG's to get it 100%. What I don't understand is why it's got a GMT bracelet and clasp? Shiny mid links? Maybe they built a Sub in a GMT case. Edit: didn't notice it's a ceramic model... Don't know much about these newer ones.
barkingtoad 2 Posted March 27, 2010 thats how mine is from PWC also they seem to have shiny mids on the new style clasps

I didn't even notice that it was a ceramic Sub. Disregard anything I said before my second cup of coffee.
Member X 91 Posted March 27, 2010 Is this the ceramic one that's not out yet / only just out? Looks great Is the lume on the gen blue? Or have they just changed the blue rep mentioned by Robert to black, leaving the lume and everything else the same? Great price though.
Watchdog 0 Posted March 27, 2010 Can you comment on the stem tube? Is it thin or thick like a gen?
alistairw 0 Posted March 27, 2010 Can you comment on the stem tube? Is it thin or thick like a gen? Hi Watchdog, Looking at the pic's I would suggest it is the thicker stem, however I'm no expert. The photos below show it in a little more detail. You may be able to confirm. Also, I had the watch presure tested to see it's waterproof capabilities, it went to 200 mts without leakage! SilverG 0 Posted April 15, 2010 That looks fantastic. Since the gen was recently released at Basel, it shows the production version with BRUSHED midlinks. I think you should brush center polished links. It will look amazing, and only takes 10 minutes to do the whole bracelet beautifully. Just buy a scotch-brite pad from your local supermarket, mini-mart etc. Then please post pics!
