simonbolivar 1 Posted March 7, 2013 I am about to purchase my first PAM rep... Love the 253 Regatta. But just saw that Toro sells a 332L in a DLC finish and I love the look even more Does anyone know how well this DLC finish would hold up? It is more expensive than the stainless 253, and would hate to have regrets if it just scratches to shit after a few weeks.
solkryssare 109 Posted March 7, 2013 It'll hold up just fine. My 1,5 year old 026k still looks like new
ALE7575 24 Posted March 7, 2013 A good DLC is harder than a clean SS surface No worries about that matter But you should bear in mind other considerations: PAM 253 is a Flyback watch impossible to copy the Flyback function, but all the pushers of a 253 are working. The PAM 332 is a rattrapante watch impossible to copy the Rattrapante function , but the rep has a completely non working pusher @8 and the movement is completely wrong and more noticeable than in a Flyback one. If although above mentioned matters you decide to buy a PAM 332 please bear in mind the engraving flaw as follows, and assure you getb a corrected caseback: Read below info extratcted from RWI PAM GUIDE: "Reference PAM REVIEW-GUIDE" - Replica Search, Identification, Evaluation & Selection http://www.replica-watch.info/vb/showthread.php/reference-pam-review-107365.html?t=107365 Curiously, these replicas have a misspelled caseback engraving. It says: "CLASSIC YACHTS CHALLENGS" instead of "CLASSIC YACHTS CHALLENGE". It is a big flaw in such a quakity replica and we hope that H maker will fix it asap. Read this post: http://www.replica-watch.info/vb/showpost.php?p=1251877&postcount=24 by mvyzfr1 On middle February 2013 they appear the first corrected casebacks with engraving OK. "CLASSIC YACHTS CHALLENGE" http://www.replica-watch.info/vb/showpost.php?p=1003285&postcount=93 by Sora http://www.replica-watch.info/vb/showpost.php?p=1325135&postcount=47 by mvyzfr1. In this case from Perfect Clones and sent direct to the owner without problems. ALE

It is more expensive than the stainless 253, and would hate to have regrets if it just scratches to shit after a few weeks. I had a DLC homage - it survived being smacked into a door so hard that it took a chip out of the door. The watch was unmarked. Sure, they do eventually start to wear (as do the gens), but they're very durable all the same. It's the cheapies (that are actually powdercoat not PVD/DLC) that really give the finish a bad name, not the properly coated high-end models Edit: having said that. I agree with Luthier (below). The SS models look better
Luthier 1 Posted March 7, 2013 Forget DLC/PVD, buy 253, one of the best PAMs ever.

ALE7575 24 Posted March 7, 2013 Great input guys. Much appreciated. I am swinging back to the 253... that was my first thought and non-functioning buttons is a deal breaker for me Read below info about PAM 253 extracted from RWI PAM GUIDE: EVALUATION: (*) FIRST CLASS REP (I-series from H maker) (with some restrictions due to inaccurate movement, see comments) The PAM 253 is like a PAM 212 but with decorated Clou de Paris dial The PAM 253 is similar to a PAM 286 but “Flyback” instead of “Rattrapante” (PAM 286 has marked with blue the previous five minutes before the starting of the Regatta in the minute counter) In 2006 I–series Panerai released a Unique Edition of 500 watches PAM 253 to celebrate the Panerai Classic Yachts Challege 2006. A “Flyback” chronograph can work like a regular chronograph, starting-stopping with the pusher @2 and returning to zero pressing the pusher @4 after stopping with pusher @2. But this type of chronograph has also this special “Flyback” function, also known as the “retour en vol” or Taylor function, which is very simple to operate. The “Flyback” function is used while the chronograph is running (without stopping by pressing the pusher @2) pressing the return to zero pusher @4, immediately returns the large blued centre hand to zero (we repeat: without having to stop it first) and the hand instantly starts again when the button is released. See Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1G8CXrY0rz0&feature=related The gen PAM 253 features this special technical function by means of the Panerai calibre OP XIX, an automatic movement with a column wheel system controlling the chronograph functions. The appearance of the “Flyback” function was catalyzed by the first watch with a separate chronograph button (the stop and reset functions were previously controlled by the winding-crown). This watch appeared in 1923 and was developed by Breitling SA The chronographs have afterwards gained the form which they retained until today. In 1934 the Breitling chronographs received the second chronograph button with the function of returning the seconds hand to zero. Thus it became possible to measure short intervals of time using the add function. However the patent of the “Flyback” chronograph belongs to Longines with its first “Flyback” chronograph dating back to 1936. This “Flyback” complication is impossible to get by the replicas and threfore they have False “Flyback” function. Moreover, the Display caseback denounces an, obviously, inaccurate movement. Due to the best versions of these replicas, I-series from H maker have an impressive construction quality, we have classified them as First Class reps, but if we cannot live with such a flaws we should consider them as only very good reps.
