dingle 57 Posted June 2, 2010 So - I am currently ordering some varnish and oil for the boat. On the hull I am using Hempel's Classic Varnish On the Mahogany on deck I use Hempel's Diamond varnish On the Teak on deck I use Hempel's Teak oil the final question is the "bottom-paint" Don't know what it's called in english but it's the paint on the bottom of the boat to keep algae and nasty stuff from growing to the boat. I am using a hempel product for this too but I am unsure of the color. - it will wither be Blue or White (leaning towards white) Discuss what the hell is talking so long? It will be vintage by time you finish :(

KBH 7 Posted June 2, 2010 the final question is the "bottom-paint" Don't know what it's called in english but it's the paint on the bottom of the boat to keep algae and nasty stuff from growing to the boat. In English it's called "bottom paint". :( I vote for blue. White would be impossible to keep looking clean and blue was the standard color for many years. It's was on stock (I have a friend who sells this to me very cheap) and besides - it's having a full restoration when fall comes. I'll reconsider then. KBH 7 Posted June 2, 2010 Too bad you're too far away. I've got a left over gallon of the old style blue paint that they don't sell any more because of all the copper in it. It worked so good the Environmental Protection Agency banned it.

I have a very good agreement with TNT courier service Jesus...you aren't allowed to put that stuff into the water....who's gunna allow it into the air? I can't even airfreight a lithium battery! On another note...you may as well paint the bottom with house paint, if you think any of the latest anti foulings are going to achieve anything much! Are you leaving it moored? If not...forget any bottom coating. Offshore

Actually I have an exam tomorrow. Beautiful boat Kinky, what's she called? Thanks a lot she's called Twist the original owner named her that, and I happen to like it
offshore 0 Posted June 3, 2010 had to look mooring up yes, I am leaving it moored Kinky, You would be better off painting the bottom with a silcone based paint, and buying a Gerni and blasting her every 6 weeks or so. She's on a trailer, so no big deal to slip. The new anti fouls are not worth a cold pie in retarding growth, whereas a silicon paint will at least make things difficult for the barnacles to adhere, and if you blast her clean regularly, you will be way ahead. Also don't leave the motor down whilst moored, you will have more issues with the leg, than the boat bottom if you do! Offshore

KinCaidk 0 Posted June 14, 2010 Deck's looking good Kinky....let's see her bum when you get done with the "massage"O/S The mahogany on the deck still needs about 5-7 coats of varnish. and the teak still needs a bit of oil - She's a thirsty old broad The "bottom-paint" looks grey on the pics - but I have been assured that it will turn white after a week in the water. Still needs another coat of paint - and yet another one in the waterline. I won't be giving the hull much varnish - only where it needs repairs. it's bound for a full revarnishing in the fall. Gonna try that pelucid stuff. I also gave her couple of coats with a mixture of linseed oil and tar on the bottom inside - under the floor. smells wonderful
