looks great kink, beautiful finish!!!

And @ brightlight/Luthier. Active pickups are fantastic for recording and also incredible for shredding (a guilty passion of mine) They're only being used in the solid body Metal-orientated model because I was going for a specific sound. I wanted that cutting bite and clarity you only get with actives.

Customers can specify from a list of pickups anyway to suit their needs, its just the standard model and the one I'm building at the moment that happen to use the blackouts.

And yeah Luthier, the routing around the pickup cavities is for custom pickup rings which fit flush to the front of the body. As I said before I make almost all my hardware from scratch unless I know that a.) what I want is already patented by someone else. Or b.) I can't currently make something better than the existing product.

Chris, great guitar, I told you that already. One think I didn't get is - 1/8" routing around pickups cavities. Some special mounting rings? And... active pickups?????? Wat???????????? It's soulless pickups, without any distinctive tone.

BT, love your Tele!!

I think we need Luthier's Section Number 9...

:)

+1

But actives are great for recording. I have a set of EMG's in a Tele and you can hold the guitar up to the amp (tube) and get NO noise. Also works better with studio effects due to wider frequency ranges.

I spoke with Martin Barre of Jethro Tull about his use of active pick-ups, he switched from playing Gibsons to Fender double fat strat and replaces the Duncans with EMG. He said for live performances the EMG pick-ups have the bite and clarity on stage but still gave him the tone he likes.i have spent a considerable amount of time at shows with these guys since the mid 90s and Martin in my opinion is a Tone-meister. He is now playing PRS.

Sorry Kinky, seems your thread got hi-jacked by us gearheads. I love your boat and the resto you are doing. I have a soft spot for the old classic Cris Craft wooden speedboats

I think we should move this convo to another thread. Kinky's lovely boat deserves all the attention on this one! It's gorgeous and should be worshipped accordingly.
