Comparison of readily available 6152-1, 6154, and 1950 cases

This is a repost of the same information that I posted over on HomageForum last year.

Seeing as how measurement questions seem to come up often in relation to PAM cases, for the benefit of the community I took some time to track down and take measurements of several common 47mm 1950 (Fiddy) and 615x cases. Hopefully, this will help answer those questions and make building Fiddys and 6152/6154 homage watches an easier task.

I used the following cases:

Davidsen 6152-1 case, sourced in April 2010.

Davidsen 6152-1 case, sourced in September 2009.

Davidsen 6154 case *, sourced in September 2009.

JacksonTse 1950 case, sourced summer 2009.

Getat Watch Co. 1950 case, sourced summer 2009.

Cartel/PWC 1950 case, sourced in January 2009.

NC 6154 case *, sourced April 2010.

* The "6154" cases listed are actually closest in size and shape to the no-CG version of the 6152-1, but since they are the basis of many 6154-style projects, I'm referring to them as 6154 cases here.

The JacksonTse and Getat Watch Co. Fiddy cases were almost exactly the same. The only real differences were some slight variations in the CG indents, which are likely to vary between cases from the same source anyway, and the case/movement rings, which I suspect are constructed to a lower standard than the case, and will also have variations from piece to piece.

For case-back compatibility reference, all case-backs tested were interchangeable between each case listed above except the NC 6154 case, which appears to have a unique thread pitch. That means that the flat DSN 6152-1 caseback mated fine with the JacksonTse case, the Getat display back mated fine with the DSN 6154, etc. Even though cases can be the same size, case-backs won't always have the same thread pattern. I also tested the case-backs with a 47mm Rad case of unknown origin and with a 2007-eta Cartel case, and found that they were not interchangeable with those models.

Keep in mind that all below measurements should be considered approximations. I did these measurements myself using a basic set of digital calipers, and I am by no means an expert. In situations like the lug ends, where each one might be different by around 0.02-0.05mm, I typically measured all of them and came up with an average.

EDIT: Case pictures are below, and a few more are posted on the second page of the thread.

You know, I didn't even realise that anybody but DSN was making a 6154 case at present. Who's got them?

I'm still not sure if this would technically qualify as a 6152 or a 6154...it's not historically accurate to either one, but it's pretty neat anyway.

TimeShops, Silix, and a few people on iOffer carry the complete watches. Silix, Mary, and some of the iOffer sellers can source the bare cases as well.

There's no love for these cases as far as aftermarket parts go. I might talk to our resident modders to see if someone would be willing to do a run of display backs and/or case-rings for these...if so, I'll order a few case-sets for dispersement amongst the homage crowd so that they can play.

hmm - very interesting. I can live with the inaccuracies, but I have a project in mind... ;)

Thanks for the info!

It's worth noting that the stock tube takes Radiomir-type crown threads, so replacing the stock Brevet crown is made slightly easier.

thanks for the info. I may still end up buying what I'm after from DSN, but this definitely gives me a couple of interesting options...
