LightGeek 25 Posted April 28, 2013 Has anyone removed a rep date wheel overlay to realign, and lived to talk about it? Are they typically well glued or just a few spots here and there?
Odyseus 1 Posted April 28, 2013 They usually separate really easily with a scalpel blade!
LightGeek 25 Posted April 28, 2013 They usually separate really easily with a scalpel blade! Thanks they're paper on a metal disk and I'm separating the paper WITH disk and not FROM the disk right?

LightGeek 25 Posted April 29, 2013 I'm at one of those "what the hell am I doing moments". Somehow I have to separate the overlay from the wheel without bending or wrecking the overlay... If I can't figure it out, I'm reassembling it as is.
jerkstore 14 Posted April 29, 2013 Have fun and a stiff drink!! getting perfect alignment is a pain in the arse!!! :) Agreed. Another problem I have run into is clearance: the overlay must sit beneath the rim of the dial spacer. I am trying to print my own vintage overlay and the paper thickness leaves it scraping against the dial back--it screws up the calendar change. Make sure your replacement overlay is sufficiently thin.
SSTEEL 0 Posted April 29, 2013 Good on you mate, learning whilst diving in, just take your time. Looking forward to your results.

Make sure your replacement overlay is sufficiently thin. In this case, I'm not replacing it but simply repositioning it... or that's the idea. I still haven't figured out how to remove the overlay from the wheel yet.
jerkstore 14 Posted April 29, 2013 You should be able to slip an exacto knife between the overlay and the date wheel (at the red arrow). Then, carefully pry it up.

LightGeek 25 Posted April 29, 2013 No turning back because the damn overlay is blocking reseating the wheel itself. I'll have play by play postings later.
LightGeek 25 Posted April 29, 2013 Reseating that wheel is a pain... Impossible if I didn't have the loupe.
flyr 4 Posted April 29, 2013 You can reseat datewheel with overlay installed. I've done it successfully a few times. You just need a thin flat object to push the spring while you line up the teeth. There is a thread on this here or at RWI that I can't find right now. Sorry!
LightGeek 25 Posted April 29, 2013 Well, I'm done. How many hours was that? Fck. I have to get up in 4 hours. Was it worth it... Pics tomorrow. You can reseat datewheel with overlay installed. I've done it successfully a few times. You just need a thin flat object to push the spring while you line up the teeth. There is a thread on this here or at RWI that I can't find right now. Sorry! The Rolex date wheel overlay is "oversized" which makes it extremely difficult (for me) to get underneath it to move the spring. On a side note, I just ordered another 6 watches from WI (BLACK) special price of rolex new submariner ceramic bezel with Asian eta movement from noobfactory http://www.rwg.bz/board/index.php?showtopic=26232 (BLUE) special price of rolex new submariner ceramic bezel with Asian eta movement from noobfactory http://www.rwg.bz/board/index.php?showtopic=26232 special price of Rolex GMT Master II Black Ceramic Bezel with Asian eta 2836 movement from noobfactory http://www.rwg.bz/board/index.php?showtopic=26259 DateJust II – Asian ETA – black mother of pearl, polished bezel Rolex black Turn-o-graph – Asian ETA http://www.icedtime.com/Rolex-Watches/Rolex-Datejust-Black-Index-Dial-Turn-o-Graph-Bezel-Oyster-Bracelet-Mens-Watch-116264BKSO.html (WHITE) Explorer II 42mm 216570 1:1 Noobfactory latest Best Edition http://www.rwg.bz/board/index.php?showtopic=41600 The other white Exp2 and GMT IIc isn't for me.
