J.Eric 701 Posted May 14, 2013 Hi Guys! I had way too much free time this past weekend so I caught up on some simple fixes that my watches needed. Up first is my 16570 Explorer II I picked up over a year ago as daily work watch. The movement died and was swapped to a generic 21j without the GMT function (GMT hand was glued onto the marker @ 4.) When the watch was assembled and finished, I noticed the marker @ 6 had fallen off. OOPS!! Fixing this was very easy..... First I popped the bezel off with a heavy duty X-Acto knife. The bezel, crystal and gaskets all come off in one unit. I was lucky enough to find the missing index. Not sure if these can be replaced so I have amassed a collection. A little G-S Hypo cement and good as new. To re-assemble, place the gasket around the rehaut lip first, then the crystal. Be sure it's straight! The bezel goes on next. Be sure it is straight and use a crystal press to fully seat it. All back together and ready. Next up I have a 16234 Datejust with a very poor date window alignment. I don't any photos of the process, but it is still simple. Remove the movement, hands, dial. Re-align the Date Wheel Overlay and reassemble. While the hands were off, I re-lumed them too although it didn't do the dial. Here is how it looks now. Last one is my wife's 79174 Datejust. I had to remove two permanent links because her wrists are soo small. All I did to this one is re-lume the hands. The lume only lasted about 15 seconds. The process of removing and refitting the bezel and crystal is the same as the Explorer II. Before... After 15 seconds... After... Thanks for Looking!
